Scouting Report

6/17/19

We have been tracking Nunez since last summer when he popped up at the North Texas Underclass Trials. The TCU commit has smooth, fast twitch athleticism to go with a left-handed swing that has really come into his own in the past 10 months. Gap power with a balanced approach and high end feel for the barrel. He ran a 6.64 60-yard dash and he is likely going to get a lot of attention from Major League teams in the 2020 Draft. Had an exit velocity of 93 mph off the tee and was 87 mph from the outfield.

Texas Christian recruit, he stands at 5-foo-9, 170 pounds with lean strength. Stood out for his speed and strength. He reached on an error and fielder’s choice in his first two at-bats and then smacked an opposite field home run in his third.

11.04.18
Nunez is a fast-twitch athlete that makes everything on a baseball field look easy. The left-handed hitter has a calm setup at the plate with relaxed rhythm and a lower hand position. Repeats his hack and is consistently on time with the barrel staying in the zone a long time. Nunez is a top of the order hitter with speed, but there is also present gap power that should continue to improve as he matures. He can flip a ball the other way with two strikes, or turn on a fastball and drive it into the pull side gap. Best description is dynamic, with a high ceiling.

7.23.18
Athletic 5-foot-8, 170-pound frame with quick twitch ability and wiry strength.  Ran an impressive 6.75 laser-timed 60 to start the day. The left-hander had an impressive round of BP where he consistently barreled line drives to the gaps and through the middle of the field with carry, posted 91 mph exit velo off the tee.  He has an athletic stance with a smooth load back with his body, utilizes a toe tap where he brings his front foot back to his midline and then takes a low gliding stride forward, slightly drops his hands in his load, works on a slightly uphill plane through the zone, is in the zone a long time with plenty of extension, keeps his head down through contact, has strong barrel awareness, and has a high finish. He closed ground on balls with efficiency in the outfield, worked through the ball with fluidity, has a quick arm action, made low accurate throws through the cut-off man,and topped out at 83 mph to the dish.  Nunez ran the bases with aggression in the game. Nunez has fluidity in his actions with quick twitch ability, handles the bat well with some power, and is athletic in the outfield. His tools will continue to improve as he continues to add more strength into his frame.

6.12.18
5-foot-8, 170-pound lean athletic frame with broad shoulders. Ran an impressive 6.62 in the laser-timed 60 to start the day. Nunez continued to impress at the plate popping a 93 mph exit velo from the left side.  Nunez has a simple compact swing from the left side of the plate, has rhythm in his hands, and is strong at the point of contact. Drove balls through the middle of the field consistently off the barrel in batting practice.  In the outfield he aggressively closed ground to balls, then showed off fluid footwork and a quick and clean release to deliver low and accurate throws to the plate (84 mph). Nunez’s combo of speed, power, and arm strength are an exciting collection of tools that will continue to improve as he matures and gains more strength.
