On August , the PBR Texas team hosted the South Texas Senior Games at Blinn Junior College, featuring uncommitted 2024's from around the state. The day started off by the players running a 60, then throwing from their defensive positions, followed by each player taking a round of batting practice. It was capped off by splitting into teams and scrimmaging. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts on the day.

Kaden McCoy SS / RHP / Atascocita, TX / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 112 / POS: 24 McCoy had a standout day all the way around at Blinn on Wednesday. The rising Senior from Atascocita plays with some bounce and twitch.  He showed that off with his infield, where he had an event best 92 mph across the diamond.  He moved well to both sides and showed the ability to stay up the middle. At the plate, the LHH showed loose wrists and the ability to flick line drives to all parts of the field.  It is an easy operation for him, and he repeats it well. He really stood out on the mound, where he threw an effortless upper 80’s fastball with life.  It played well up in the zone and there is more to come in that frame. He spun a good breaker, landed it for strikes, it is more of a show pitch right now, but he has the hand speed to develop a swing and miss one as well.  Overall, it was a really impressive day for McCoy.

Caleb Barry-Smith RHP / The Woodlands, TX / 2024 Smith was dominant in his outing at Blinn. The RHP from The Woodlands toed the rubber with a purpose and executed from pitch 1. He was 85-87 on the day, he has been higher this summer. He has a low release height and good carry on the fastball, which really helps it play up at the top part of the zone.  He also spun a good slider that got north of 2500 rpm’s on the spin. It is more horizontal but plays well off the riding fastball. Barry-Smith showed the ability to miss bats in the strike zone, and had a really  good day.

Chase McGarr OF / RHP / Episcopal, TX / 2024 McGarr was another arm that took the rubber with a purpose and was dominant in his outing. The 6 '1 Righty dominated with a FB/CB combo that he commanded at all times. His fastball was 84-86 topping out 87. He also threw a low 70’s curveball that had good shape.  It lacks power right now, and is more of a strike stealer at the next level, but there is projection left and he shows feel for spin. Overall it was a really good day for McGarr.

Collin Dennis OF / LHP / Atascocita, TX / 2024 Dennis had a good day on both sides of the ball as  well. The Sr. to be from Atascocita showed a big arm off from the OF topping out at 89 multiple times.  He also showed it off on the mound where he threw a mid 80’s fastball from the left side. He complimented that with a nice, short slider that generated some swing and miss. At the plate, Dennis showed some pull side power from the left side with some natural strength and above average bat speed. He topped out at 95 for his max exit velo. Dennis showed real value on both sides of the ball.

Rob Thomas RHP / Sinton , TX / 2024 Thomas was another righty that showed good pitch ability during his outing. The Sr. from Sinton showed a 3 pitch mix that featured a mid 80’s fastball, a slider and change. The slider was his best pitch, as it showed good sweeper qualities and can generate swing and misses.  He threw the changeup with good arm speed and killed the spin on it.  He commanded the fastball well, and threw that pitch at a 70% clip for strikes.  It had some ride up in the zone, and there is more velocity coming.  Overall, it was a good outing for Thomas. He showed a starter’s repertoire and still has some projection.

Maverick Minister LHP / OF / Smithson Valley, TX / 2024 Minister is a 6 ‘2 LHP out of Smithson Valley who definitely looks the part. Coming from football practice, Minister hopped on the mound and sat in the low 80’s with his fastball. He showed the ability to get to both sides of the plate with it.  With some mechanical tweaks, I think Minister could see some velo gains pretty quickly. He also featured a slider that he threw in the low 70’s.  It was more horizontal and is a good pitch to throw off the plate to lefties.  Minister showed quality stuff, with a frame with more to come.  Good competitor on the mound.

Luke Taylor 3B / SS / Central Heights , TX / 2024 The 6’ infielder from Nacogdoches showed a lot of potential at the plate, as he had the highest max exit velo on the day. He topped out just a little over 97 mph, and also found the sweet spot 80% of the time. He starts with a pretty simple operation, with him pre loaded into his back hip. From there he really uncoils and showed the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. He is flat through the zone and the barrel stays in there for a long time, giving him a chance to hit to all fields.  Taylor profiles best at 3rd base defensively.

Julio Cuotto 3B / SS / Foster, TX / 2024 Another standout on the day was Cuotto. The 3rd baseman from Foster HS is a physical presence and his strength showed up throughout the day. The  RHH had some of the best BP on the day and had a max exit velocity of 96.7 mph. He showed good power to the pull side and up the middle. He has a swing that he repeats well, and stays flat through the zone. He can probably add some loft to his swing and get into even more power.  Cuotto also showed off a powerful arm that topped out at 90 mph across the infield. He has more than enough arm to make all the throws at 3rd.

Errick Lewis Jr. OF / 3B / Cypress Ranch , TX / 2024 I thought Lewis was one of the big winners on the day. The Outfielder from Cy Ranch, looks the part of a power hitting corner outfielder. He showed off a quality arm, that has a chance to play in RF or be an above average arm in Left.  At the plate, Lewis had one of the top exit velo’s on the day, topping out at 96.3. He also hit the farthest ball on the day, measuring at 363 ft. There is still some strength to be gained as well so he should continue to add onto his power.  He played well in the game, overall a really good day for Lewis.

Parker Evans 1B / OF / Midway, TX / 2024 Evans was one of the stars throughout the gameplay portion, but he also shined during the showcase. The 5 '11 1B was another player that got north of 95 mph for his exit velocity, topping out at 95.3  In game, Evans hit a big HR over the LC wall and later in the day almost did it again going dead center.  He shows good bat speed and strength, and the ability to stay short to the ball. Evans also shined at first base, he had multiple balls he picked out of the dirt to pick up his fellow infielders.  Overall, a really good day for Evans.

Bryan Chabaud C / RHP / Waller, TX / 2024 Chabaud was another standout during the gameplay portion of the day. The big backstop had multiple barrels, including a HR down the LF line that he pulled his hands in on and showed off his strength. During the BP session, his blast numbers were some of the best this summer we have seen. He had elite rotational acceleration, maxing out at 29.3 g’s. He also flashed above average bat speed. He has a strong arm behind the plate, topping out at 79 mph.  Chabaud also jumped on the mound showing a low 80’s fastball. Overall, an impressive day for the Waller product.

Ricardo Seda SS / C / Lago Vista, TX / 2024 Seda did a little bit of everything at Blinn, and did it well. The C/INF from Lago Vista is a good athlete who plays the game with a lot of bounce. He started his day with a 6.98 60 showing good athleticism. He showed off his arm and glove work at short during the workout, topping out at 85 mph across the diamond. He showed good lateral quickness and was smooth with the glove work. He then hopped behind the plate, and had a top pop time of 2.01.  He has a simple swing that he repeats well. He maxed out at 92.9 mph, and there is so much more to come as he gains strength.  He was impressive behind the plate during the game, showing the ability to really receive and frame.  Seda does a lot of things well, and brings a lot of value to a program.

Tucker Staton C / OF / Moody, TX / 2024 It isn’t always easy to find good athletes behind the plate, but Staton really shined throughout the day in that regard.  Staton ran an impressive 6.91 60 to start his day, showing plus speed for a catcher. And the footwork showed up on his throwdowns, where he had an event best 1.97 pop time. He is a good receiver of the baseball and should really help any program behind the plate.
