2018 UIL Team Preview: San Antonio Southwest

PBR Texas Staff

The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW

Expectations are high for San Antonio Southwest after a 26-10 2017 campagin that saw the Dragons finish runner-up in conference and make a run to the fourth round of the playoffs. The Dragons have an experienced core as five of the seven returning starters will be entering their third or fourth year on varsity. First Team All-District C Nate Aguilar will lead the squad from behind the dish. After transferring into Southwest for the 2017 seaon, 3B Caine Agis made a name for himself, earning District Newcomer of the Year.  Another First Team All-District selection, 1B Eric Hernandez helps solidify an experienced infield. Coach Bobby Behnsch will need someone to step up in the outfield for him, but the outlook looks good.
