SAN MARCOS – It was a chilly, breezy, overcast day in Central Texas, but it made for a full day of baseball. We caught up with three matches in the day, showcasing teams from the Central Texas Area as well as a visitor from West Texas.

Hays 4 - Odessa Permian 0

They Hays Rebels’ pitching and defense held the Odessa Permian team scoreless. Hays was able to scratch out four runs with eight hits on the day and one costly error in the third inning by Permian.

Notable Players:

Aidan Martinez, LHP/1B, Hays High School, 2019

Arkansas-Pine Bluff Commit – Martinez has a polished presence on the mound, slinging the ball from a deceptive ¾ slot and hiding his arm action with good rotational carry of his body down the mound. He pounded the strike thrower, owning the arm side and low quadrant of the zone. Martinez had three pitches that he could throw with equal command. His fastball ranged from 80-83 with occasional tailing action, his curveball had big break on a 2/7 axis and came across at 69-72, and he showcased a fading changeup that clocked in at 71-73. He generated a lot of soft contact in his four innings of work.
