North Texas Underclass Games: Top Prospects

Marler burst onto the scene at our Houston Area Open event, earning an invite to both the North and South Texas Underclass Games where he put together standout performances. 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, with a strong, athletic frame and muscular lower half. He is an elite level catcher with excellent carry in his arm, throws strikes through the bag at second base with pop times ranging from 1.88-2.0 and a top velocity from the crouch of 76 mph. Soft hands behind the plate, easy reciever, great hip mobility, athletic blocker. Offensively, Marler is a confident right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, aggressive approach, and loose easy finish of the barrel. Ball jumps off his bat during batting practice with gap power and more to come. Multiple at-bats with hard contact, including a triple he smoked to left-centerfield that one-hopped the wall. He ran a 7.1-second 60-yard dash, and had an exit velocity of 92 mph off the tee. Marler is a hard-nosed player with high skill set that would be a great addition to a recruiting class.

Rohmer is an all-around athletic, confident two-way talent standing 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, with a lean, muscular frame. On the mound, the right-hander has an aggressive demeanor, working from a high-¾ slot, up-tempo delivery with some effort and hides the ball well. During the game his fastball was mostly 84-86 mph but he did flash an 87 and 88 during warm ups on the scoreboard radar gun. He throws his slider aggressively, flashing late, sharp 11-5 depth at 75-76 mph. Also threw one cutter at 81 mph. At shortstop, Rohmer showed good range with fluid footwork, making several plays with high-end athleticism and the ability to play on the run. A right-handed hitter, Rohmer has a strong bat, driving the ball from gap-to-gap with a short, efficient path and loose extension through contact. Rohmer ran a 6.93-second 60-yard dash and had an exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee.

Santos, a recent Rice commit. carved up hitters at the North Texas Prospect Games in late July. He stands 6-foot, 185-pound, with a strong, barrel chested frame with broad shoulders. Works from a high-¾ slot with a clean arm stroke. Pounded the zone with his fastball at 83-85 mph with arm side life. Fastball comes out clean with some downward angle, he was able to beat hitters multiple times with quality fastballs at the knees on both edges of the plate. Real presence and confidence on the mound. Aggressive delivery, lands open, creates angle on fastball, falls off to glove side on finish. Curveball has good depth and tight rotation at 71-74 with 1-7 shape. Changeup is a good pitch at 78 mph with arm side fade and depth, and fastball arm speed.
