On Saturday, January 21, Prep Baseball Report and its staff converged on Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, to evaluate players from all over the state at The North Texas Prospect Games.
The day began with each player going through a full pro-style workout, then continued with a game between two teams. The PBR staff was able to record stats and video on each player in attendance. PBR will continue to work to be the #1 news source for all of high school baseball across Texas. Continue to check back for updated reports, video, and events.
Below is a complete breakdown of all four catchers. Each one has an updated profile with stats, a player write-up, and video from the event.
catchers
+ Garrison Rice, 3B/C, Hebron HS, 2020
5-foot-11, 184-pound, strong frame. The right-handed hitter starts from an athletic, tall, neutral stance. He has a quiet load with a slight arm bar working into a short stride with good balance. Shows good strength at contact with a line drive approach and good extension through contact. Rice, only a freshman, posted one of the best exit velocities of the event at 86 mph off the tee. Behind the plate, Rice throws from a short, high-¾, natural catchers slot with slight length in his exchange. His pop times ranged from 2.02-2.44 to second base at 76 mph.
+ Jonny Follett, C/RHP, Prestonwood Christian Academy, 2020
5-foot-10, 160-pound, lean, athletic frame. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with flex in his knees. Crouched load with a short leg-kick, then fires his hips as he continues to work down into his legs. He has a short, flat hand path and keeps the barrel in the zone a long time with strength at contact. Shows good bat speed for his class. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph off a tee. Defensively, Follett throws from a natural catchers slot with elbow-dominant arm action and clean release with accuracy. Shows good hip mobility and blocks with athleticism. Pop times were consistent, ranging between 2.24-2.34 with a velocity of 71 mph. Ran an 8.0 60-yard dash.
+ Zachary Zuniga, C/RHP, Geneva School of Boerne, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, slightly open stance with good balance. Easy load with good rhythm to get started as he triggers his hands and lands with athleticism. Has a steeper hand path to contact that results in a line drive approach. Registered an exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee. Behind the plate, Zuniga has a quick, clean exchange with fluid footwork. He threw 74 mph to second base with pop times ranging from 2.06-2.14. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash.
+ Sam Boese, C/3B, Prestonwood Christian Academy, 2018
6-foot-2, 195-pound, sturdy frame. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance with good rhythm in his hands and a slight bat wrap. Has a quick, toe-tap load with a short stride before rotating his lower half through contact. Shows a level hand path, strength at contact and a line-drive approach during batting practice with an exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee. Behind the plate, Boese has a slight gather in his exchange and flashes fluid footwork. His pop times ranged from 2.18-2.44 to second base with a velocity of 72 mph.
