GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- Throughout the fall, PBR's staff will be on the road covering baseball across Texas. Games, workouts, practices, camps and more.  The "boots on the ground" philosophy of PBR is well represented with the coverage throughout the Fall of 2017. Here is some of our coverage of the pitchers from Week 3 of the Metro Scout League.

Top Pitchers

+ 2019 RHP Kadon Morton (Seguin HS) is the highest ranked uncommitted player, at No. 12, in the Texas 2019 Class, and the junior was dominant on Sunday. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander is a high end, all-around athlete with a lean-muscular frame. Morton has a loose, easy arm swing, working from a high-¾ slot. Clean, athletic delivery with good hip turn down the mound, lands closed. His fastball sat 89-90 mph, but the pitch has a second gear and it’s easy to dream that there is more velocity to come in the future. Complementing his fastball is a sharp curveball at 75-77 mph with 11/5 shape, tight rotation and good bite.

+ We got one of our first looks this fall at 2019 RHP Tim Wynia (Frisco Liberty HS). Wynia, an Oklahoma recruit, stands 6-foot-3, 170-pounds, was able to maneuver through a couple of innings with relative ease, thanks in part to his command of an 86-87 mph fastball, and a sharp breaking curveball at 72-74 mph. Wynia was able to get ahead early and finish batters with his curveball in the dirt for swings and misses. The pitch has tight rotation, 11/5 shape and good depth.

+ A couple of arms started to make jumps from Week 2 to Week 3, including 2019 RHP/SS Ryan Bogusz (Lone Star HS), and 2020 RHP/3B Cameron Loy (Mansfield HS). We have seen Bogusz several times in the past two months, and the junior continues to impress with his loose arm and athletic 6-foot-2, projectable pitcher’s frame. Working from a ¾ slot, the right-hander sat 85-87 mph in his first inning of work with arm side run, throwing his 10-4 slider at 73-75 with tight spin. Cameron Loy also got up to 86-87 mph with outstanding fastball command and good feel for his curveball at 72-75 mph with 11/5 shape with tight rotation. He also flashed what appeared to be a cutter/slider at 78 and 79 mph.

+ Several Seniors performed well on Week 3, including uncommitted 2018 RHP Mason Meeks (Lake Dallas HS), who was 85-87 mph early in his outing, dropping a couple of times down to 83 mph. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot, his curveball has gradual break and 10/4 shape at 72-74 mph. He threw a couple of sliders with lateral shape and loose spin 77-78 mph. Odessa JC recruit, 2018 LHP Connor Carlton (Abilene Wylie HS) works from a high slot with a short arm stroke. The left-hander was 83-85 mph with a good 72-73 mph curveball with 1/7 shape and depth. His counter-part on D-BAT Griffith, 2018 RHP Alan West (Lewisville HS) topped out at 86 mph, working mostly 82-85 mph. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a tall and fall delivery. His changeup was his best pitch, showing arm side fade and depth at 72-75 mph. His curveball had average depth at 70 mph.

+ 2019 Subby RHP Isaiah Rhodes (McKinney North HS) had solid pitchability from his low slot. The right-hander only threw his fastball 77-79 mph, but he showed a good slider with sharp-lateral break at 72 mph. Rhodes has a lanky, long-limbed, wiry frame, and looks as if he has a bright future as a reliever.

+ Really like what I saw from 2019 LHP Tye Sampson (Denton HS). The 6-foot-5, 170-pound left-hander has a projectable pitcher’s frame, and works from a high-¾ slot with a long, clean arm swing. After getting out of a shaky first inning by picking off a runner at first base with a slick move, Sampson came right back and worked a clean second inning, with his fastball ranging from 78-80 mph, and a 71-72 mph curveball with average 1/7 shape and depth.
