Klein comes from behind to take down Katy 3-2.
The Katy Tigers matched up with the Klein Bearkats on Friday night under the lights of Premier Baseball in Tomball, Texas. Coming into this game with a 10-1 record, the Katy Tigers have put together a solid start to their 2017 campaign, but Klein was riding a five game win streak and an 8-2 record.
For Klein, 2017 RHP Nick Candelari, a Texas Tech recruit, would take the mound vs. RHP Jacob Clayton from Katy.
With Klein trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, after a hit batter and a defensive miscue, Klein second baseman Matt Shipman would smash a two-out, two-run triple over the head of the right fielder to put the Bearkats ahead 3-2, giving them their first lead of the game.
The Katy Tigers would not go quietly in the seventh inning, piecing together three infield singles to load the bases with one out. But with with the game on the line, right-hander Nick Candelari would bear down, striking out the last two Katy batters he faced, sealing the victory for the Bearkats 3-2. Candelari, a Texas Tech commit, finished six-of-seven innings with a strikeout, and twelve total for the game. Jacob Clayton would take the hard luck loss for the Tigers as he gave up only one run through his first five innings, striking out six batters.
Katy was able to put up 8 hits on Candelari, but could only manage two runs. Meanwhile Klein scored 3 runs on just 4 hits.
Scouting notes from this game and others will be posted to our Houston Scout Blog in the next few days.
