Jax Alley Lifts Prosper To 5-3 Win

PROSPER, TX - It was a good thing we got to the yard early at the Eagle’s Nest because it was a packed house on Thursday night. The energy was electric in the stands, even a good thirty minutes before the first pitch, and it held up until the last pitch of the game.

Two junior left-handers took the mound for their respective teams. 2019 LHP Willie Rangel (Texas Tech) has been a work-horse for Cleburne, and uncommitted LHP Jacob Cosner toed the rubber for Prosper.

Cleburne got the party started in the top of the third when Weatherford JC commit, Coy Sims, hammered a hanging breaking ball over the centerfield fence for a home run. Two batters later, uncommitted 2018 C Nick Duran hit a missile into the left-centerfield gap for a triple. Then 2B Javier Torres singled him home. 2-0 Cleburne.

But Cleburne would answer with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Braden Carmichael and Connor Jackson singled with one out. After a fly out, 2018 CF Kendall Foster (McLennan JC) doubled off the top of the green monster in left to score Carmichael. Designated hitter Dawson Zey singled home Jackson and an outfield miscue allowed Foster to score as well. 3-2 Prosper.

Cleburne tied it up at three in the top of the fifth when Marcos Guereca singled home Nick Duran.

With both starters out of the game in the sixth, Prosper’s Taylor Pendley walked to lead off the inning. That’s when 2019 Jaxon Alley launched a ball deep into the Texas night - and over the green monster in left field - for a two-run homer. Prosper up 5-3.

But Cleburne was not done, with two out and nobody on in the top of the seventh, 2020 3B Slayton Day doubled off the very top of the left-centerfield wall. A walk to the next batter brought the winning run to the plate for the Yellowjackets. But reliever Spencer Cochran got a fly out to end the game. Final Score: Prosper 5, Cleburne 3. Game two of the series will be Friday at Cleburne, first pitch 1:30 PM. If needed, game three will be Saturday at Eaton HS, 7:00 PM.
