THE WOODLANDS, TX - On October 14, Prep Baseball Report Texas hosted an open event at College Park HS. Here is the infield analysis from that event.

INFIELDERS

MIDDLE GUYS

Hector Garcia Jr., SS/3B, Seven Lakes HS, 2021
Garcia has a confident presence on the field, and rightfully so. The uncommitted sophomore has polished actions at shortstop, to go with a solid built frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Plays easy catch, accurate arm, smooth footwork, fast exchange, arm works from different slots and he can play on the run. The right-handed hitter has simple strength at the plate with natural lift, his barrel stays in the zone a long time. Quick hands with a short path and high finish. Expect the measurables to improve as he contines to mature, but for now, the feel to play shortstop is already present at a young age, and he will certainly be moving up the rankings.

Micah Walker, SS, South Houston HS, 2020
It is easy to like the way that Walker moves at shortstop, with smooth-flashy actions, quick footwork, fast hands, and quick exchange. At 5-foot-9, 160-pounds, Walker is an aggressive player, and it shows on the infield and at the plate. Plays through the ball with intent and tempo, and threw 84 across the diamond with a quick arm swing. Can play on the run and starts the double play with ease. Offensively, the right-handed hitter starts from an open, slighlty crouched stance with his shoulders tilted forward and rhythm in his hands. Leg kick load as his hands trigger down and back. Slots the barrel on plane with a short path, working on an upward plane, creating lift with strength at contact and a top exit velocity of 86 mph.

Evan Cameron, OF/2B, College Park HS, 2020
Cameron is an all around baseball player with an athletic frame at 5-foot-8, 160-pounds. The actions are solid on the infield with the ability to throw accurately with a clean arm swing from different slots and fundamental, directional footwork to go with a top velocity of 81 mph. Even though he is listed as a primary outfielder, its not out of the question to think that Cameron could be a swiss army knife at the collegiate level, playing infield or outfield. Offensively, the right-handed hitter barreled it up during BP with a rhythmic load, controlled leg kick, and loose-quick hands. Generates solid leverage for his size, with sneaky pop, gap power and an exit velocity of 88 mph.

Collin Coker, SS, Sweeny HS, 2022
Coker already looks the part with a high-waisted, lean-muscular frame at 6-feet, 155-pounds. Ran a 7.2 60-yard dash, runs with an easy gate and long strides. The right-handed hitter has a leveraged hack with loose-quick hands that allow him to drive the ball during BP with a top exit velocity of 86 mph. Starting from a stacked stance with his shoulders tilted forward and relaxed hands, he loads back with a reverse leg lift as he triggers his hands down and back, then strides forward. Lands with separation that allows for an athletic weight shift, providing leverage and lift through contact with a high finish and loose hands. On the infield, Coker has soft hands out front and does a nice job of playing low with good mobility in his lower half for a long-limbed youngster. Shows the tempo and rhythm through ball that should allow him to improve as he continues to develop.

Martin Rodriguez, OF, Carnegie Vangaurd HS, 2019
5-foot-7, 142-pound, wiry, fast-twitch frame. Started the day with a 6.96 60-yard dash. The left-handed hitter has sneaky bat speed with a short, quick path and line drive power that produced a top exit velocity of 89 mph. Starting from a tall, slightly open stance, Rodriguez rocks back as he triggers his hands and lifts his front leg, taking a short stride, landing balanced. Smooth hack with lag in the barrel on a slightly up hill path. Working out on the infield, Rodriguez showed versatility from earlier events where he participated in the outfield. Plays through the ball with smooth rhythm and fundamental footwork to go with soft hands and an easy exchange. He can start the double play with fast hands, throwing from a lower slot with feel and plays on the run.

Jose Segura III, SS/RHP, Oak Ridge HS, 2020
5-foot-9, 174-pounds. The right-hander works from an over the top slot with a medium arm swing and tall-and-fall delivery. His fastball ranged from 74-76 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape with early break at 61-64 mph. Changeup was 67-68, and his knuckle ball danced up to the plate at 60-61 mph then showed late action down in the zone. A two-way player and right-handed hitter, Segura has a relaxed setup at the plate, starting from a slightly open stance, then triggers his hands back as he strides short, landing balanced. Simple swing with strength at contact and a top exit velocity of 90 mph, Segura has gap power and repeated his hack with hard contact during BP. On the infield, he has quick footwork, soft hands, plays through the ball with rhythm, and can make the one-handed glove play. Threw 76 mph across the diamond.

Dylan Kerbow, RHP/SS, The Woodlands HS, 2021
6-foot, 160-pound frame. A two-way player and left-handed hitter, Kerbow starts form a wide base with his hands set back behind his shoulder. Uses a short leg kick load as he keeps the bend in his torso as he triggers his hands, making an aggressive initial move to the baseball. Strong hands working from a front arm bar produced hard contact during BP with a top exit velocity of 88 mph. On the infield, Kerbow has a quick first step and fast exchange as he plays through the ball, throwing from a natural ¾ slot with a top velocity of 79 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash.

James McGlumphy, C/SS/RHP,  Round Rock HS, 2021
McGlumphy has a wiry, long-limbed frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide base with his bat set on his back shoulder, then triggers his hands back into a front arm bar as he shifts his weight back and lifts his front heal as a timing mechanism. Long clean arm swing from all positions, including behind the plate, where made highly accurate throws with pop times of 2.0-2.19 with a top velocity from the crouch of 75 mph. On the infield, he has quickish footwork and plays through the ball aggressively before whipping his arm to throw across the diamond at 75 mph. 

Eric Ortiz, SS, Cypress Ranch HS, 2020  
5-foot-10, 155-pound frame. Ran the fastest 60-time of the day at 6.8-seconds. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance with his hands set close to his head in a relaxed postion. Uses a leg-kick load as he triggers his hands down and back, turning his front side to get square. Quick hands throw the barrel through the zone on a slightly uphill plane. Line drive power with a top exit velocity of 86 mph. On the infield, Ortiz has quick footwork and a clean exchange as he plays through the ball. Accurate arm across the diamond with a top velocity of 78 mph.

Jase Hood, SS, Van Vleck HS, 2022
5-foot-6, 118-pound frame. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall stance, then uses a toe-tap load as he triggers his hands back. Lands open, flat path, contact approach with a top exit velocity of 75 mph. On the infield, Hood has a quick first step, plays through the ball with rhythm and soft hands and threw 64 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.82 60-yard dash.

CORNER GUYS

Cameron Meisenbach, 3B/2B, Lamar HS, 2020
Meisenbach has a sturdy, broad shouldered frame at 6-foot, 185-pounds. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide base with flex in his knees, then loads back smooth, using a short leg kick as he strides forward and pushes his hands back. Smooth, inside out path to contact with keeps the barrel in the zone a long time, producing consistent contact with gap type power and a top exit velocity of 89 mph. On the infield, Meisenbach plays low through the ball as you would expect for a third baseman. He has a quick first step, soft hands, and clean exchange before releasing the ball from ¾ slot with a top velocity of 72 mph across the diamond.

Cristian Garcia, 1B, Westside HS, 2020
Garcia has a broad shouldered, high-waisted frame that projects to add even more strength in the next year at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. The left-handed hitter starts from a tall, wide base with relaxed hands, then loads up as he triggers his hands and tips the barrel forward, and taking a short stride. Hands work through the zone with looseness, creating lag in the barrel to go with leverage and lift to create a top exit velocity of 89 mph. At first bae, Garcia has soft hands to go with quality glove action on picks around the bag. Plays through the ball with smooth footwork and clean exchange into a natural left-handed arm slot with a short, clean stroke that allows him to make accurate throws to start the double play with a top velocity of 79 mph.

Josh Fowler, 3B, Ganado HS, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Fowler has a confident presence for a freshman, and the right-handed hitter has rhythm and poise in the box. Starting from a tall stance, he uses a leg kick load as he pinches his knees together  and triggers his hands back as he strides forward, landing balanced with separation and energy. Aggressive hack with fluid transfer as his back foot gains ground, providing leverage to go along with quick hands and a loose finish with a top exit velocity of 89 mph. On the infield, Fowler has quick footwork as he plays through the ball with tempo, rhythm, and soft hands out front. Throws with a short arm circle and a top velocity of 72 mph across the diamond. Although young, he has natural feel and instincts for the game.

Austin Shever, 1B/RHP, Kingwood HS, 2021
Shever has a strong, muscular, barrel-chested frame at 5-foot-11, 200-pounds. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a long arm swing and a tall-and-fall delivery. Commanded his fastball at the bottom of the zone at 76-78 mph. Located his curveball in the zone with 11/5 shape at 62-64 mph. Turns his changeup over with arm side fade at 68-70 mph. Slider has more lateral, shorter break at 69-70. At two-way player and right-handed hitter, Shever has raw strength at the plate and posted an exit velocity of 94 mph during BP. Starting from an open stance, his uses a leg kick load as he triggers his hands down and back into a front arm bar before striding forward, landing square. Aggressive hack with gap power. At first base, Shever plays low through the ball with soft hands and threw 81 mph across the diamond.

Jacob Masters, 3B, McCallum HS, 2021
5-foot-8, 145-pound frame. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, relaxed stance, then shifts his weight back as he triggers his hands and strides forward, landing balanced with separation. Quick hands with a relaxed initial move allow for solid barrel awareness and hard contact. Flat path with line drive power and a top exit velocity of 88 mph. On the infield, masters throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity across the diamond of 74 mph.
