HOUSTON, TX - Here are some of the hitters that stood out at the Houston Area Codes.
Jack Sigrist, SS, Plano West HS, 2018
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 185-pound, strong, muscular frame. Segrist put together one of the better days at the Houston Area Code Tryouts on Tuesday, beginning with his 6.66-second 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter was aggressive at the plate, barreling up three balls on the nose vs. elite arms. He smoked a line drive on a first pitch fastball at third base, then homered to deep left field, and in his third at bat he singled to right-centerfield on a 92 mph fastball. Sigrist has added strength to an already athletic frame this summer and shows excellent bat speed with the ability to handle velocity, as well as stay on off-speed pitches. Sigrist, who played second base at Plano West this year, has a chance to move to shortstop next year. He profiles as an offensive infielder at the collegiate level and will be a nice addition to a recruiting class. He plays for Frozen Ropes during the summer and is a high academic student.
Alec Carr, SS/OF, Kempner HS, 2018
Texas recruit. 6-foot, 170-pound, sturdy, athletic frame. Carr worked out at shortstop and has a strong arm from the left side of the infield with footwork that should allow him to stay on the infield in college. He ran a 6.76-second 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts with his weight into a bent front leg, he has a short leg-kick and his hand path is clean with strength at contact. He played outfield during the game and put the ball in play in every at-bat. He hit two balls on the barrel, one for a base hit up the middle and another a fly ball to right field. He rolled over three times to third base and ran a 4.19 to first base on his last at bat.
Cole Moore, C, Georgetown HS, 2018
Texas Tech recruit. 6-foot-1, 215-pound, strong frame. The left-handed hitter has easy rhythm and makes hard contact with a simple, balanced swing. He took excellent swings during the game, attacking fastballs and keeping his hands back on off-speed pitches. His pop times between innings were in the 2.07-2.1 range.
Korey Holland, OF, Langham Creek HS, 2018
Texas recruit. 5-foot-11, 165-pound, athletic frame. Holland started the day by running a 6.58-second 60 and took a solid round of batting practice. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall stance that allows his hands to work with fluid rhythm. Holland had two singles during the game, a base hit up the middle and another through the left side on a slider. His speed played during the game as he stole a base and ran a 4.15 home to first.
