Futures Games - Team Texas Pitching
August 13, 2019
CARTERSVILLE, GA - Here is a break down of the pitcher-only arms that Team Texas had on display at the 2019 Futures Games last week. Each PO threw two innings over the course of the weekend.
2021 RHP Alec Grossman (Lake Travis) was a highlight Extremely twitchy 5-foot-10, 160-pound body that exudes athleticism through compact, explosive movement, Grossman hurled his lively fastball at 89-91 (92) mph from a ¾ slot. His fastball had excellent ride and played well up in the zone. There is a lot to like mechanically with his clean actions in compact movements, showing that there could be a lot more velocity waiting with more growth. Grossman showed a 75-79 (80) mph curveball with 11/5 shape, aggressively late break and last-second depth. The pitch showed potential to be a true plus offering with more refinement.
2021 RHP/SS Zachary Cawyer (Nolan Catholic) Lean and projectable at 6-foot-2, 177-pounds, Cawyer has a smooth delivery with some length in the back, gets on top of the ball from a ¾ slot and produces a natural tilt that aids in the effectiveness of his easy-effort fastball that clocked at 84-87. He worked the fastball on both sides of the plate and finished hitters with a big breaking curveball with 11/5 shape, late break with plus depth at 72 mph.
