Frisco Heritage vs. Mesquite Horn

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

FRISCO, TX - Mesquite Horn traveled across the metroplex to take on Frisco Heritage in one of the final scrimmage days before the UIL Season begins next week. This was our opportunity to see the No. 18 ranked arm in Texas, Evan Vanek.

Don’t sleep on Mesquite Horn this season, these guys competed at the plate and played with a ton of energy. They have several hitters in the top of their order that will give them an opportunity to score runs. Uncommitted 1B Jason Kondikoff is a left-handed hitter with a strong, stocky frame at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. Took quality hacks and made hard contact against Vanek. Hitting in the three hole is 2019 3B/RHP Shea Ellis, who is already committed to Navarro JC, and looks the part of a physical corner bat at the next level, standing 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. Ellis has the arm strength across the diamond and the bat speed to turn around velocity. Then there is 2021 SS Jalen Jones who has a young, wiry frame at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds. Moves around well at shortstop and showed quality glove actions and poise on a couple of bad hops.

Evan Vanek, RHP, Frisco Heritage HS, 2019
Texas A&M commit. Lean-muscular frame at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Working from a low-¾ slot the right-hander has a long, easy, whippy arm swing with a reach in the back and a medium stride down the mound.
