This past week brought a lot of content from Texas and across Prep Baseball Report. Over the past month we have been in Dallas, Houston and Austin. Our staff will be working to become the #1 news source for Prep Baseball across the state of Texas. Remember to follow us on twitter (@PBR_Texas) and reach out to us with any news, commitments, or your upcoming workout and game schedule. Last week we had the opportunity to see the Mets Scout Team go up against Panola JC. Here is our report on the infielders.
Adam Oviedo, SS, Alvarado HS, 2017
Texas Christian commit. 6-foot, 187-pound frame. The shortstop shows advanced defensive actions with great rhythm through all types of ground balls. Good hip mobility, plays low advanced glove actions. The arm strength has excellent carry and accuracy with a quick, midline exchange and elbow dominant arm action. The right-handed hitter has a simple set-up with a short, smooth hand path. He was 1-for-4 on the night with a base hit to center field crisply hit on the barrel.
Zion Mayberry, IF, McKinney Boyd HS, 2017
6-foot, 190-pound, strong frame, well defined lower ½ and good upper body strength. The uncommitted right-handed hitter gets started from a slightly open stance with a leg kick. He was 1-for-6 on the night with a line-drive base hit up to center field, a deep fly ball to right field and two strikeouts. He registered a 4.46 home-to-first time on a ground ball to third base. The infielder has longer defensive actions and long arm action with good arm strength. Moves well for a larger frame offensive player.
Brett Brown, 2B/SS, Godley HS, 2018
Texas A&M commit. 6-foot-2, 185-pound, athletic frame. The right-handed hitter took good swings during his six at-bats, coming away with a base hit on an infield single and two walks. The infielder has good feet, long strides, solid range and a longer arm action.
Canaan Smith, C/1B, Rockwall Heath HS, 2017
Arkansas commit. 6-foot, 215-pound strong frame. The left-handed hitter starts from an athletic open stance and uses high level bat speed with a short hand path. On the night, he laced a line drive base hit to center field, grounded out to shortstop twice and had a 6.76 hang time on a fly ball to left field.
Will Frizzell, 3B/1B, Rockwall HS, 2017
Texas A&M commit. 6-foot-5, 210-pound strong frame. Though he did not have much to show for it, the left-handed hitter has good presence in the box, good bat speed and a solid hand path.
