FW Christian Prevails Over Grapevine Faith 11-8
April 13, 2018
GRAPEVINE, TX - There was a ton of energy at the yard on Thursday night in Grapevine as Grapevine Faith hosted Fort Worth Christian. With the wind blowing straight out to centerfield at roughly 15-20 mph, the game would have an offensive theme in what would be a back-and-forth, high scoring affair with a 5 lead changes.
FW Christian got on the board first Ethan Smith doubled off the centerfield wall, driving in two run. A couple of pitches later, Jacob Hasty doubled down the first base line to score Smith. Cardinals up 3-0.
The Lions answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning when 2018 C Michael Spetter doubled down the left field line, driving in two. Then, DeWain Foster singled to centerfield, scoring Spetter. Tie ballgame, 3-3.
The Cardinals added a run in the second on a balk, and another in the third when LSU commit Jacob Hasty hammered a deep fly ball over the right field wall for a solo home run. Cardinals up 5-3.
Grapevine cut the lead in half in the third. But in the bottom of the fourth, DeWain Foster launched a missile to left field for a huge 3-Run HR to put the Lions up 7-5. Grapevine added a solo run in the fifth to take a three run lead on a Will Parker single. 8-5 Grapevine.
On to the 6th, where the scoring continued. Ethan Smith led off with another double, and Hasty was intentionally walked, bringing 2019 Xavier commit, Cade Fontenot to the plate. Fontenot laced a double to the left-centerfield gap, scoring Smith and Hasty. Two batters later, Devin Baur singled home Fontenot. Tie game 8-8.
FW Christian reliever Ethan Smith, got into some trouble with the bases loaded and 1 out, but he was able to work out of a jam with a foul tip out, and a strikeout to end the Lions threat. Still tied 8-8 heading to the 7th. That’s when Smith hit his 3rd double of the night, and put the Cardinals up 9-8. After a dropped fly ball in the outfield, FW Christian added two more runs to take a three run lead, 11-8 Cardinals.
But Grapevine Faith wasn’t done, as they doubled and singled in the bottom of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate with one out. But reliever Ethan Smith got a game ending double play to seal the victory for FW Christian, Final Score 11-8.
