centennial vs. byron nelson 03.10.17

Frisco Centennial walks-off twice to defeat Plano West and Byron Nelson.

It appeared to be all Byron Nelson early in this game, as the Bobcats would score a run in each of the first two frames, giving them a 2-run lead. But The Centennial Titans would not go quietly into that good night, as they kept grinding out at-bats, and innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Centennial would tie the game at 2, with a huge two RBI double from Cahlynn Jones.

In the top of the sixth, Byron Nelson appeared to put the finishing touches on a would-be victory, as they scored twice to go up 4-2. Centennial would answer with a run in the bottom half, as R.J. Stefanek would score on another RBI from Cahlynn Jones, this time a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

As we headed to the bottom of the seventh, you could hear Coach Dan Walsh urging his guys keep fighting, and fight they did. With one out and nobody on, leadoff man Weston Symes reached on an infield error. Then Chris Leal got on with an infield single in the six-hole. After another infield error by Byron Nelson, the score was tied 4-4. R.J. Stefanek was intentionally walked to load the bases and setup the force out, or double play ball. Up to the plate came Garrett Oldham, who earlier in the game had laced a ball up the middle for a hit. He would single again, this time driving in the game winner for the Titans, and giving them their second 5-4 walk-off victory of the day.

Earlier in the day, Centennial’s Michael Morissette drove in Weston Symes for a 5-4 walk-off win over Plano West.

rockwall vs. midland - 03.10.17

Rockwall defeats Midland 2-1

It was a low scoring affair on Friday morning between the Yellowjackets of Rockwall and the Midland High Bulldogs. Right-handers Jaxon Hallmark and Justin Childers matched up for what would turn out to be a pitchers duel. Rockwall’s Justin Childers had a stellar performance, his final line was 6.1 IP, 2 H, 1R, 2 BB, with 6 K, earning the win. Midland High got on the board early in the second inning, with base a hit from Jackson Anuszkiewiez that drove in Chris Sims. But Rockwall would answer in the bottom half as Bennett Laurence would drive in a run on an RBI-groundout.

The Yellowjackets were led offensively by Diego Muniz, who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Will Frizzell would drive in Muniz from third base with a ground ball in the third inning to give Rockwall a one run lead, and the eventual game winner.

For Midland, Hallmark would take the hard-luck loss, tossing six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks, and striking out six. But Midland had their opportunities, as they would load the bases with one out in the top of the seventh inning. But reliever Trey Stephenson would get the last two outs of the game to earn the save for Rockwall. Final score, Rockwall 2, Midland 1.

wakeland vs. plano west - 03.10.17

Two Wakeland pitchers combined to shutout the Plano West 7-0 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in The Tournament of Champions on Friday afternoon. Left-hander Wyatt Marr would get the win for Wakeland, as he went five strong innings, with eight strikeouts, one walk and four hits. Cole Magel would work the last two frames for Wakeland, not allowing a base runner, and striking out one.

Wakeland was led offensively by Jared Martin, who had a big home run to left field and was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Collin McDuffy, Cooper Chandler and Justin Stout each had multi-hit games for The Wolverines.

Plano West was led by Alec Buonasera and Jack Sigrist, who each had an extra-base hit. Buonasera went 2-for-3 with a double, while Sigrist was 1-for-3 with a triple.
