DALLAS, TX - Here are some of the highlights from position player at the DFW Area Code tryouts.
Max Marusak, OF, Amarillo HS, 2018
Texas Tech recruit. 6-foot, 180-pound, athletic frame. This was our first look at Marusak who started the day by running a 6.41-second 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter made hard contact during BP, then put on a baserunning clinic during the game. Marusak ran a 3.94-second time to first base on a full swing chopper for an infield single in the six hole. He stole second base and gets to top speed at an elite level. Extremely fast twitch player, especially lateral movements such as vaulting at second base. Game changing speed. Currently ranked No. 31 in Texas, and No. 228 Overall.
Jose Gutierrez, 1B, Arlington Lamar HS, 2018
Dallas Baptist recruit. 6-foot-2, 225-pound, strong, muscular frame. Currently Ranked No. 25 in Texas, and No. 175 Overall. The left-handed hitter put together the best offensive performance of the day, going 4-for-4 in the game. Gutierrez had three singles and a double, all hit squarely on the barrel, and all against high end pitching. He showed the ability to stay on off speed pitches with his first two knocks coming off a curveball and a slider. He doubled in his third at bat, lacing a 90 mph fastball in the left-centerfield gap.
Hunter Watson, 3B, Pottsboro HS, 2018
Texas A&M recruit. 6-foot-3, 215-pound, projectable, strong frame. The left-handed hitter put on a show in batting practice with light-tower power and premium bat speed. Watson’s frame, athleticism and all around strength are advanced. Currently Ranked No. 7 in Texas, and No. 40 Overall.
Jordan Groshans, SS, Magnolia HS, 2018
Kansas recruit. 6-foot-4, 197-pound, athletic frame. Groshans has fast-twitch, fluid actions and a high ceiling because of his ability to play a premium position on the left side of the infield and hitting at a high level. The right-handed hitter squared up two balls during the game, a hard ground ball to shortstop and a sharp line drive to right field. He has a big leg kick, hits off his front foot, but his hands work very well with strength in the barrel. Currently ranked No. 10 in Texas, and No. 52 Overall.
