Cosner & Janco Pitch Prosper To Victory Over McKinney North

PROSPER, TX - Tuesday night was a battle of two teams competing for first place in district 14-5A. The McKinney North Bulldogs came in with a record of 19-4, 5-1 in district, while the Prosper Eagles have posted a stellar 21-2, 6-0 record so far this year.

In the bottom of the first, Prosper would get on the board when senior shortstop Easton Murrell, an Arkansas recruit, would drive in Zach Wilson on a two-strike base hit to left field. The Eagles would score again in the third inning when junior centerfielder Kendall Foster, a West Virginia recruit, would collect an infield single on a chopper up the middle to score Braden Webb, putting Prosper up 2-0.

McKinney North’s offense wasn’t able to get in a rhythm all night, as they were kept off balance by Prosper’s left-handed starter Jake Cosner. Cosner, an uncommitted sophomore, went 4.2 innings, allowing only one hit, four walks, and struck out 5. The Bulldogs could only manage getting two runners into scoring position, one in the second and another in the third inning. But Cosner would end both innings with strikeouts looking.

The dagger to the heart of McKinney North came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Coach Carpenter would send three pinch-hitters to the plate for Prosper, all three reaching base by a hit or walk. Cade McBride, a Ouachita Baptist recruit, would hit a two-RBI single to left-centerfield, giving Prosper a 5-0 lead.

Prosper left-handed reliever Jamie Janco would shut the door on the Bulldog offense, hurling 2 ⅓ scoreless innings without a run or a hit, and recording five punchouts, including striking out the side in the seventh. Final score Prosper 5, McKinney North 0.
