6-foot-3, 200-pounds athletic strong frame, that runs a 6.94- sixty yard dash. Duffield has a presence in the box and has shown the the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. This summer, his overall game has caught up to the talent that he possess with multiple home runs as well as doubles hit in front of our staff. Defensively he also shows the ability to move to the ball well as well as showcase a power arm from the OF. Duffield has quite the high ceiling as he continues to put all facets of his game together.

PBR: What was your initial reaction when you arrived at LakePoint for the PBR Future Games?
Duffield: I was extremely excited. I knew there was going to be a lot of people watching and it was an incredible opportunity. I knew I needed to take advantage of every swing and throw I made. That really changed my work ethic since then.

PBR: You recently made your commitment to Rice, can you talk about your recruitment process and why Rice was the right fit for you?
Duffield: I knew from the start I wasn’t deciding until I was a junior. I wanted to take visits and really pick the place that felt right. COVID made it really tough to do that. I really took my time to get to know every coach and learn about the schools, not just their baseball program. I think that aspect gets over looked too much and my goal was to find the right fit. Rice was the one. The coaching staff as a great plan for their future, for the team and for me. Academics comes first though and in the South you cant beat Rice. The moment I stepped on campus with my parents here in Houston it all felt right. Im super excited for the future.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
Duffield: Very relieved. The pressure is off now and now I feel like I can just go out and play. Knowing that you’ve made a choice and a very good one feels great every night after a long day of class and putting in work.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
Duffield: Rice checked all the boxes. That was the key. From the top tier education to the program I know Rice is going to be a great place to be.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
Duffield: Most certainly my parents but I couldn’t have gotten anywhere near where I am now without Coach Randy Brown. He’s taught me everything I know about hitting and he’s always looked out for whats best for me. He gets my mind in the right place and helps keep my game in line.

PBR: What advice would you give to a young players who may be uncommitted right now?
Duffield: Take your time. Whatever you do, do NOT jump at the first offer. Wait it out if you can and get on the campuses of the schools you like. The feel is super important.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Duffield: I’ll never forget paying in the WWBA championship this fall. We rolled out 8 guys and won. I was cramping from the first pitch I threw and was grinding it out for 5 innings. Crazy tournament but even crazier last game.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
Duffield: Cody Schrier. That dude flat out rakes. I met him at a USA baseball event and he’s a competitor and a good dude.
