STEPHENVILLE, TX -  This past weekend, PBR Texas made its way to Stephenville High School for a two day event with Canes Southwest. Players from all high school classes were in attendance for a pro style workout on Saturday. Following the workout, they went straight into gameplay with 3 games on Saturday and three more on Sunday. It was a great look at the organization and today we take a further look at some of the standouts from the weekend

Quick Hits

Jacob harms RHP / OF / Ranchview, TX / 2026

The 6’3 Freshman opened a lot of eyes at the Canes SW Scout Day. He threw a weekend best 86 mph FB and showed the ability to command the zone it. He showed the ability to sink it as well, indicated by his Sink+ score of 100.  He complimented his fastball with a slider, that he threw with good arm speed and came out of the same tunnel as his FB. He threw it in the low 70’s with good shape, and he could land it for strikes.  Harms rounded out his arsenal with a Changeup. He still learning feel for the pitch but showed the ability to throw it with the same arm speed. Harms has a projectable frame, and as he continues to fill out and get stronger, he should continue to see his velocity and stock rise.

Trevor Ellis OF / 1B / Prosper, TX / 2026

Ellis had a good weekend overall, and he is just scratching the surface of how good he is going to be. The freshman has a projectable frame at 6’3 180 and is just now growing into his body.  He ran a solid 7.08 60 that will continue to get better as he matures and gets stronger. He looked fluid in the OF and will have more than enough arm strength for RF as he gets older. At the plate, he hit the 2nd farthest ball in BP at 340 ft. and had a max exit velo of 87.7.  Those numbers are just scratching the surface for Ellis. He also got on the mound and showed clean mechanics. Ellis has a lot of potential and as he gets in the weight room and gets stronger and gains more body control, we should see some big jumps from the freshman.

Blaze Grider RHP / 3B / Decatur , TX / 2027

Grider was one of the younger players at the Canes SW scout day, but once he stepped on the mound, he opened some eyes.  He is all knees and elbows at 6’1 145, but he is an easy mover down the mound and showed some pitch ability. He topped out at 80 on the mound and sat in the upper 70’s for the duration of his outing. The arm was clean, and it was a low effort operation.  He showed the feel for spin with a low 70’s breaking ball. He threw it for strikes and as he gets stronger, it will get tighter, and he will be able to throw it with more power. He also showed good actions in the infield, showing good lateral quickness for his size and age. Grider still has another year before HS, but he will be a fun one to watch as he progresses.

Caden Young C / 3B / Allen, TX / 2024

Young was one of the big winners for me on the weekend. He showed all the tools and intangibles to be a high-level catcher. The Jr. from Allen HS had a weekend best 2.0 pop time with an accurate arm. His receiving skills really stood out as well. He presented a good target with minimal body movement, showed strong wrist and the ability to work under the ball. At the plate, Young showed a controlled, repeatable swing. He has some present bat speed and an approach geared to hit line drives gap to gap. There is more power potential in there if he zeroes in on his pitch and lets it fly. Young showed a great aptitude for the game and leadership qualities with his pitching staff that you look for in a catcher and will be one to follow this spring for the Eagles.

Jacob Soliz 3B / SS / Rouse, TX / 2026

Soliz showed a lot of promise and potential throughout the weekend. The freshman from Rouse really stood out during the defensive portion of workouts. He played with good bounce in the infield and showed clean actions with refined footwork. Soliz’s soft hands and footwork made every play look routine. At the plate, Jacob showed a compact swing that he repeated well. That was evident with his 100% Sweet Spot percentage of Trackman. Soliz has a lot of tools and is going to be another high end player that comes out of Rouse.

Connor Comeau SS / 3B / Weiss, TX / 2026

One of the best pitching performances on the weekend belonged to Comeau. The 6’2 150 lb. freshman was dominant on Saturday night. He sat 80-82 and touched 83 and pounded the zone with his fastball. He had a nice, clean, longer arm action that he repeats well. He didn’t need it, but he flashed a breaking ball in the low 70’s that showed potential.  Comeau also looked smooth during the defensive portion of the workout.  In the batter’s box, the LHH showed some rhythm and pull side power.  As he continues to get stronger, he should be a force at the plate. Overall, it was a great weekend for Comeau and will be one to follow.

Brayden Lara SS / 2B / Weatherford, TX / 2026

Lara is no stranger to the PBR Texas staff as he was a member of Team Texas at the Jr. Future Games. The freshman from Weatherford is a good athlete, running an event best 6.81 60 and top run speed time of 19.7 mph.  The athleticism shows up on the dirt as well, showing good actions and above average range.  He looked natural going to both sides of the ball and coming in for it.  At the plate, Lara is a RHH and shows the ability to drive the ball to the pull side.  As he continues to get stronger, Lara’s game will take the next step.  Lara has a lot of tools and will be fun to watch his progression.

Jacob Gayman OF / RHP / Round Rock, TX / 2025

Gayman had one of the more impressive weekends during the gameplay portion.  The RHH consistently barreled baseballs and had some quality ab’s.  He has a sound approach, showing the willingness to use the whole field, trusting his above avg. bat speed to let the ball travel and drive the ball all over the field.  He has some loft in his swing and showed some pull side power potential.  He was 85 from the OF during the defensive portion of the weekend, showing enough arm strength to project to RF.  He also pitched and sat in the upper 70’s.  Gayman really showed up during gameplay and we are excited to get out and watch him in the Spring.

Edmond De Leon RHP / 1B / Bowie, TX / 2026

De Leon had one of the louder weekends in both the showcase and game play portions.  The freshman was tied for the best max exit velo of 89.8 and 3rd best Max distance of 328. He has some natural rhythm in the box with a slight leg kick, he shows good bat speed and takes aggressive swings while maintaining his balance.  He showed solid actions in the infield as well with soft hands for a big kid and tied for the best infield velo of 86. He hopped on the mound and sat in the upper 70’s and touched 81. De Leon has a good feel for the game and some loud tools and is another ’26 that will be fun to follow.

Cason Pool SS / RHP / Jasper, TX / 2024

Pool was a consistent performer all weekend showing off in all aspects of the game. He ran a 7.1 60 and tied for the best INF Velo at 86. He looked good taking ground balls, showing some lateral quickness and soft hands.  In the box, the RHH showed some pull side power and had a max exit velocity of 88.7. As he continues to get stronger and use his lower half there is another jump in there from a power standpoint. On the mound, Pool topped out at 82.7 with a clean, short arm action that he will be able to repeat.  There is more velo there as he gets into his legs more.  Pool stood out all weekend, and I think there will be another jump in his numbers soon.

Parker Heagy OF / RHP / Rock Hill, TX / 2024

Heagy showed some impressive tools all weekend in both the workout and game play. The 6’ RHH has a very projectable frame and ran one of the better 60’s of the day with a 6.85.  His BP opened some eyes with his above average bat speed and the aggressive swings he took.  He had a max exit velo of 89.8 and that is just scratching the surface as he continues to fill out.  He has some loft to his swing that should play nicely at his home ballpark.  Heagy is an intriguing follow, his best days are ahead of him as he continues to gain strength and body control.  He is a High School that works hard, and it will be fun to see the progress he has made in the Spring.
