Allen vs. Jesuit

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

ALLEN, TX - The Allen Eagles havent lost a game since starting district on March 12, but Friday night did not get off to a great start as Jesuit loaded the bases in the top of the first thanks to four straight walks. Down 1-0 with two outs, Coach Coe went to the bullpen for 2019 RHP Jake Flowers, who got out a groundout to end the early threat.

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the second when 2021 2B Evan Anderson doubled with one out, and scored on infield error one batter later. Game Tied 1-1.

2019 LHP Jack Lynch (Xavier) has been the talk of the metroplex this spring, putting together multiple quality starts. He and Jake Flowers battled it out the entire game, and each of them gave their club a chance to win.

Allen took the lead in the fifth when 2019 OF Sam Haigwood (NCTC) singled, then stole second, and third, allowing a sacrifice fly from 2019 C Joey Crisci to score him. 2-1 Allen. That score would hold up as Flowers shut down the Jesuit offense for 6.1 innings of releif.

Tip your hat to the Allen offense, they put quality swings on Lynch’s fastball, it may not have shown up in the stat line, but their hitters were aggressive and ready to face a quality arm.

With the win, Allen maintains sole possession of first place at 8-0, and with the win over Marcus on Saturday, they are now 21-4 Overall. With the loss, Jesuit is now 3-5 in District, 16-10 Overall. In a District that has teams beating up on each other, Allen and Prosper (7-1) sit at the top with a big series in two weeks.

Allen has a nice club, and even though this was our first look at them this year, it’s not too tough to see why they are winning games. 2020 Cooper Huspen is in CF and leading off for the Eagles with 2019 Sam Haigwood (NCTC) right behind him, both guys can run and Haigwood had two huge stolen bases in the fifth inning. 2019 C Joey Crisci (Central Oklahoma) is in the three hole and has really come into his own. Crisci has always been able to catch and throw, but he has gotten much stronger in the past year. Seniors Grayson Coltharp (Paris) and Judson Arrington (Angelo State) are both on the corners and hitting in the 4 and 5 hole. Remember the name of 2021 2B/SS Evan Anderson (Allen HS), he is a high-waisted, quick-twitch athlete that had three barrels on Friday with two knocks. After hitting a deep double to left field in his first at-bat, Lynch threw the sophomore a fastball up and in to start his second AB. The right-handed hitter hammered the very next pitch to left field. Big bopper Cole Latos hits seventh in the DH spot and has raw power and good speed. All-in-all, these guys are for real.
