BLANCO, TX - In a meeting of 25-3A rivals, the Blanco Panthers took on the Lago Vista Vikings on Friday to kick off the three-day weekend. The 3rd place Panthers came in with 6-1 district record and 14-6 overall record. The Vikings entered the contest in 2nd place in their division (6-2 in district/20-3 overall).
The contest was primarily one-sided as Lago Vista started the scoring early and coupled with a strong pitching and offensive effort by senior McLennan JC recruit, Alex DeLeon, was nearly able to blank the Panthers. Lago Vista plated two runs in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth, totalling 8 hits and 5 walks. DeLeon supported his own efforts with a solo homerun in the third inning.
Blanco scratched six hits through the contest, but were unable to manufacture anything until the seventh inning. With two outs, sophomore 2nd baseman Eddie Calzoncit hit a solo blast over the centerfield fence. Lago Vista closed the game out with the next batter to secure the 7-1 victory.
