The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After winning nearly 30 games and finishing as 4A Area Finalists in 2023, the Godley Wildcats bring back a returning roster primed for a stronger postseason run in 2024. Coach Brent Lewis’s squad expects to be built on their defense in 2024 with six players returning who earned regular season accolades.

In the returning senior class, the Wildcats bring back three players who were both All-County and All-District last season in INF/C Lucas Ponce (uncommitted - 1st Team AC, 1st Team AD) who was also Honorable Mention All-State, OF Tate Grimsley (uncommitted - 2nd Team AC, 1st Team AD), and OF/RHP Jason Carrell (uncommitted - 1st Team AC, DNOTY). Also returning from the Bulldogs’ senior class is UTL Owen Arambaru (uncommitted), RHP/C Tyler Stevens (uncommitted), and OF/RHP Ryan Davies (uncommitted). Projected senior newcomers for the varsity squad in 2024 are C/UTL Brendon Kent (uncommitted), RHP Jake Pempsell (uncommitted), INF/OF Brenden Jameson (uncommitted), and INF Colin Langford (uncommitted).

In the junior class for Godley, the Wildcats bring back INF/RHP Jaydon Spurlock (uncommitted), who was First Team All-County and First Team All-District last season. Also returning is OF Byron McClure (2025; uncommitted), who was Third Team All-State, First Team All-County, and First Team All-District in 2023. UTL Marcos Molina (2025; uncommitted) and UTL/RHP Jackson Duke (2025; uncommitted) will round out the returning junior class for the Wildcats heading into 2024.

On the underclassmen side, the Wildcats return sophomore INF/C Crosby Carmichael, who earned Second Team All-District honors a season ago. In the freshmen class, keep an eye on the trio of OF/LHP Tabor Anderson, INF/RHP Ryder Papasan, and C/INF Braxton Spohn as potential instant impact guys to follow heading into the spring.

There is talent scattered throughout each class for the Wildcats heading into 2024 as they look primed to have a strong season this year and for the future years. Look for Godley to be a tough out come 4A playoff time this spring.
