The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After a rebuilding year in 2023, the Frisco Centennial Titans return an older and more experienced group for 2024. Coach Travis Summerlin will bring back six players who were All-District last season, while also relying on the team’s pitching and offense to lead the way this spring.

Leading the returning group will be North Central Texas JC signee INF/RHP Jace Patton (2024). Patton was First Team All-District last season and is also currently ranked No. 279 in the state. Patton is an athletic defender up the middle with a strong arm to pair (T91 mph), and flashes pop in the bat as well from the right side, posting a max EV of 96 mph for our staff in the past. Joining Patton in the senior class are four additional players who were All-District in 2023 in INF Nick Echaniz (Hendrix - 2nd Team), OF Matthew Kesting (uncommitted - 1st Team), 1B/UTL Hunter Lapolt (uncommitted - 2nd Team), and UTL/RHP Tyler Hughes (uncommitted - 2nd Team). Two other returning seniors to know for the 2024 squad are OF Jose Castillo (East Central Football) and C/INF Blake Busboom (uncommitted). In the sophomore class, the Titans will welcome back OF/RHP Hayden O and C/CIF Myles Woertendyke, who both got extensive time on varsity in 2023 as freshmen. O was Second Team All-District last season and is currently ranked No. 58 in the state. A 2022 JFG participant, O has tools on both sides of the ball but excels on the mound where can run the fastball up to 87 mph with low effort, while tossing in two above-average offspeed pitches as well. Projected to join the varsity squad this season is junior CIF/RHP John Caldwell (uncommitted). Currently ranked within the top-200 for the state, Caldwell is another hard-throwing righty for the Titans that runs his fastball in the mid to upper-80’s (T88), and features a curve, change, and slider as well.

With their returning pieces and potential pitching staff and lineup, look for the Frisco Centennial Titans to find their way back in 5A postseason contention in 2024.
