TEAM OUTLOOK
Coach Brian Jones and the Dallas Jesuit Rangers bring back a very talented young roster for the 2024 season. The Rangers bring back six players who earned All-District awards in 2023 as well as an astounding five players who have participated in the Prep Baseball Junior Future Games. This year’s roster is expected to be very athletic in all areas with promising young talent leading the charge.
The upperclassmen to know for the Rangers’ 2024 team are C/OF Tristen Bird (2024; uncommitted), RHP Dillon Brandt (2025; Pennsylvania), INF/RHP Jake Fults (2025; Kentucky), and RHP Asher Levy (2025; uncommitted). Bird is expected to start behind the dish for the Rangers after earning Second Team All-District last season. Brandt is expected to be the team’s ace in 2024 after earning District Pitcher of the Year in 2023, and is currently ranked No. 114 in the state. Fults returns after a First Team All-District campaign in 2023 that has him now ranked in the top-30 for the state, and No. 279 nationally. It is also worth mentioning that both Fults and varsity newcomer RHP Asher Levy were teammates during the 2021 Junior Future Games.
The sophomore class for the Rangers is loaded from top to bottom with established talent and potential heading into 2024. Headlining the class is TCU commit OF Braxton Barber, who was Second Team All-District in 2023, as well as a 2022 Junior Future Games participant for the state. Barber is currently ranked No. 35 in the state, and No. 331 nationally. The reigning District Newcomer of the Year returns in INF/RHP James Jorgensen. Jorgensen, finds himself not far behind Barber in both the state and national rankings, checking in at No. 40 and No. 348, respectively. This past summer at the Top Prospect Games: Central Texas, Jorgensen put up some serious numbers for his age; running a 6.91 60, throwing 87 mph from the infield and 93 mph from the outfield, while also posting a 97.2 mph max exit velocity with the bat. Two additional members from the 2022 Texas Junior Future Games team will be on this 2024 Rangers’ squad in returning CIF Taylor Haddock and newcomer UTL Shane Parker. Haddock was Second Team All-District last season and is currently ranked No. 37 in the state and No. 342 nationally, putting him right in between Barber and Jorgensen. Parker will join the varsity squad this year and is currently ranked within the top-70 for the state. Additionally joining varsity from the sophomore class this season will be infielders Husdon Yobp and Charlie Wilson, with Wilson checking in at No. 144 in the state.
The Rangers have four freshmen to note as they begin their high school careers this spring in UTL Preston Farragut, LHP/1B Cole Johnson, UTL JP Malone, and C/UTL Roman Derichsweiler. These four, along with the aforementioned sophomore class will give Coach Jones a lot of pieces to build around for future years.
This Rangers team looks locked and loaded for 2024, and with their athleticism and talented underclassmen they could make a deep 6A playoff run. Look for Dallas Jesuit to be one of the team’s our staff is watching closely throughout the spring.
