The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After missing out on the playoffs in 2023, the Baytown Lee Ganders and Coach Trent Padgett will look to their pitching staff to get them back into postseason contention in 2024. The Ganders return three key arms from 2023, and bring in two additional newcomers to help build out the 2024 pitching staff.

Headlining the Ganders pitching staff will be senior INF/RHP Zach White (Northwestern State) and senior RHP/OF A.J. Garcia (Arlington Baptist). Uncommitted senior RHP Ivan Cortes will also factor in on the mound for Baytown Lee in 2024. Joining the Ganders this season on the mound will be junior OF/RHP Noah Wiley (uncommitted) and sophomore INF/RHP Eddie Torres, who should both play other positions as well. Elsewhere on the diamond, the Ganders bring back the lead battery mate for the pitching staff in junior C Dylan Edwards (uncommitted).

With their pitching depth, look for the Ganders to try and get back into postseason contention in the state’s 5A class in 2024.
