The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 30 teams in the state.

Team Outlook:

The Arlington Colts are coming off a strong 2023 season where they finished as 6A Area finalists. Coach Brian Womack returns an impressive upperclassmen group in 2024 that looks to pick up where the 2023 team left off. Leading the team are two Texas State Games participants in 2024 CIF Jackson Irons (McLennan CC) and 2024 RHP/INF Dylan Buechele (Oklahoma). Irons put up some impressive metrics with the bat at the State Games putting up a max exit velocity of 99.1 mph. Buechele was equally impressive at the State Games on the mound where he showed a fastball that maxed out at 90.3 mph, complemented by a sharp slider and a changeup that works in the low 80’s. The Colts also return three infielders who have committed to play at the next level in 2024 INF Eli Terrell (National Park), 2024 RHP/INF Ryan Ott (Arkansas Tech), and 2024 INF Kaden Wharton (East Texas Baptist). On the mound, the Colts rotation will be headlined by the previously mentioned Buechele, with Senior OF/RHP Barrett Howard (Richland CC) and Senior LHP/OF Ryan Laney (Uncommitted) being in the mix as well. A trio of 2025 arms also look to help bolster the Colts’ pitching depth in C/RHP Jeremiah Taylor (Uncommitted), UTIL/RHP Lunden Prater (Uncommitted), and INF/RHP Mason Hensley (Uncommitted). Another trio of underclassmen to watch in 2024 for the Colts are 2026 INF/RHP Daniel Bustamante, 2026 INF Brendan Buechele, and 2027 RHP/INF Mason Hickman. Overall, 2024 should be another exciting year for Arlington and they will be worth following throughout the season with their pitching and defense leading the way.
