September 8, 2022
TEXAS - As we continue our dive into the 2023 class. Today we look at the newcomers to our list. We highlight the 6 young men that enter the top 100 after being unranked. A lot of physical projectable arms on the list. Let’s take a look at the newcomers in our Top 100:
+ RISERS
Newcomers
#29 Kannon Kemp - RHP - Weatherford - OU Commit
The highest rated newcomer is Kemp. The OU commit has a starter profile with a fastball that sits in the low 90’s and will occasionally get higher. Has some natural cut on it at times making the pitch that much more difficult the square up. He also shows a Slider that has depth and has the makings of being a put away pitch. Kemp stands 6’6 and projects for more.
#52 Jacob Gholston - RHP - Flower Mound - OU Commit
Another 6’6 RHP from the metroplex committed to OU. Gholston is seeing his velocity continue to rise. He has been up to 92 recently and has plenty more to come. It is a clean, low stress delivery that he repeats well for his size. His secondary stuff shows potential, and as he gets more power on the breaking ball, he has a chance to take another jump. Gholston isn’t close to scratching his potential.
#79 Garrett Schroeder - INF- JJ Pearce - Texas Tech Commit
The infielder from Richardson hits every time we see him. He has good bat speed and strong wrists, allowing him to drive the ball with authority to all fields. He shows the ability to leave the yard going the other way. He has a frame that will allow him to continue to get stronger without losing his athleticism. The Texas Tech commit is a good defender and should be able to stick up the middle long term.
#81 Stephen Sepulveda - RHP - EP Americas - Baylor Commit
The RHP from El Paso shows the ability to really pitch and throw his full arsenal for strikes. The Baylor commit has a fastball that will be 88-91 most of the time, with a long loose arm action. He can generate some ASR and sink when he stays arm side with the pitch. He throws a good slider in the 78-81 range that pairs nicely with his fastball, coming out of the same tunnel but going the opposite direction.
#82 Carson Priebe - RHP - Frisco Wakeland - Texas Tech Commit
The RHP from Frisco helped lead Wakeland on a deep playoff run last year that saw them make it to the state tournament. The 6’5 Tech commit has a fastball that will top out at 93, sitting comfortably in the 88-91 range. He also throws an upper 70’s breaking ball that shows the potential to be a true swing and miss pitch. Priebe is another tall, physical DFW arm whose velo continues to climb.
#93 Zachary Frye - RHP - Keller Timber Creek - Texas A&M Commit
Frye’s athleticism stands out on the mound. He has some current strength, moves well down the mound with an up tempo delivery, and has an aggressive mentality on the mound. He throws his FB in the 88-92 range, topping out at 93. He is comfortable getting to the glove side with the pitch. The game changer for Frye is the slider. It is 78-81 and he throws it with confidence and conviction. It has great depth and late sweeping motion to it. He can rack up the swing and misses with that pitch. The Aggie commit is a fun one to watch, as he goes right after the hitter.
