2020 Rankings Update
December 14, 2017
The updated and expanded 2020 Rankings was released this week, and is now up to 300 players. On the Hunt, checks out eight players (four uncommitted) who have continued to progress, and could break out even more this spring/summer. Of the players featured, four are left-handed pitchers to go along with two right-handers, a switch-hitting catcher, and a game-changing shortstop.
Carson Atwood RHP / 3B / Silo , OK / 2020Rankings OverallRank: 60 / POS: 14
Atwood exploded onto the national radar at PBR Oklahoma’s Fall Top Prospect Games where his quick arm allowed his fastball to run up to 90 mph. The durable and thick, 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander features a polished delivery that he repeats with ease. Atwood gets excellent drive off his back side enabling him to get far down the mound while working with a higher front side, and loose, quick arm that delivers out of a high ¾ slot. Creating a downward plane on his 87-90 fastball, Atwood works the pitch to both sides of the plate, and the ball appears to jump out of his hand. He throws his slider (78-79) with fastball hand speed, and it takes 11/5 shape while exhibiting the possibility of becoming a plus pitch in the future. Thrown at 72-73, Atwood’s changeup shows fading action and his has average to above feel for it, and should get even better as he throws it more in the future. Still maturing into his physical frame, expect Atwood to continue his upward progress to becoming a possible future starter at the next level. |
