TN HS Team Preview: Station Camp Bison

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

TOP RETURNING PLAYERS

Carter Casabella (2024, Tennesse Tech)

TEAM OUTLOOK

Station Camp goes into the 2024 season coming down from 4A into 3A classification and have a large number of returning upperclassmen that should provide plenty of spark to not only lead their district, but be a heavy favorite to host throughout postseason play. Coming off of a 24-11 record a season a year ago, the Bison should have high expectations to build off of that with sights set on Murfreesboro come late May. The battled 3A state runner-up Upperman last season and came away with a 6-4 victory, while also beating 3A state tournament participant Green Hill 6-1. The Bison would lose in regional play against a pesky Beech team that pretty much had their number all season long. This year looks to be different as the club return a slew of D1 committed talent on the mound and in the lineup, while still having a handful of talented uncommitted prospects throughout. Senior Tennessee Tech signee Carter Casabella will be in line to be their workhorse and ace on the hill and comes with the ability to run the fastball into the low 90’s but will most likely settle in at upper 80’s with command for his offspeed. He is also a talented two-way player that should bat somewhere in the top of the lineup and handle shortstop duties when not pitching. Behind Casabella will be uncommitted junior Nate Parsons, who will be set to make his return after suffering a UCL injury that cost him the majority of last season against Clarksville Academy. He looks to be fully healthy this year but I imagine they take their time with and slowly build him up. He has shown flashes with the fastball velocity, as well as showing ability to spin the breaking-ball in any count. They will have to replace a handful of arms that have since graduated but seem to have proper depth to figure out their main 3 man rotation as the season progresses. In the lineup, the Bisons will have senior Belmont signee Noah Rice, who offers speed in centerfield and on the bases, while having a hot stick from the left-side that shows some juice. He looks to be back in the leadoff spot and will be a major factor in how far this team goes this season. Senior 1st baseman and other Belmont signee Tucker Smith comes into the year off of having a really impressive summer and looks to have the cleanup spot locked down with plenty of juice in the bat from the right side. Looking to be back in the two hole will be MIF Brandon Gillispie, who offers another left-handed bat and speed on the bases. He should slide into 2nd base, while also having the ability to cover shortstop if needed and will be another major weapon the Bison will be relying upon. Senior Caleb Devore looks to man the hot corner at 3rd base and offers ability with the glove. The bat seems to be coming around more and they are looking for him to be a spark-plug near the bottom half of the order. Junior Noah Jenkins likely plugs back into left field full-time this year and will handle the bat somewhere in the bottom half of the lineup. The Bison look strong in their lineup and will be a major strongsuit for this years team. The top end pitching is there with them as well and it looks like their season will ultimately come down to finding the right bullpen pieces and having their starters go deep into games. If they can mesh both offense and pitching together, look for them to run through their district and stack wins together consecutively with an opportunity to host throughout the playoffs.
