NPI Day 2 Scout Notes

Hunter Martin
Scouting Director

Emerson, GA - The National Program Inviational is a top-tier destination for the most talented travel ball organizations in the entire country, where the best some of the best players in the 2025-2027 class compete in front of our national scouting office. The NPI plays host to a good amount of Tennessee based travelball organizations, as well talented players from the Volunteer state on national based teams. There have been some players who have continued to build off their spring and showcase success as we follow along all weekend long.

The 6 foot 5 left handed arm was dominant in his 4 innings against a strong South Charlotte Panthers team loaded with current Power 5 and D1 commitments. Holloway works from a higher arm slot that creates a lot of down hill leverage with glove side ASR. Worked well getting ahead of hitters and seemed to consistently be in good pitcher counts. The fastball worked 90-92 throughout with late ride and glove side cut to left handed hitters. Really only induced one hard barrel in the first inning. Racked up a ton of whiffs with heavy fastball usage. Worked well expanding up in the zone when needed. The slider was more darty with cutterish actions and once he learns to develop a sharper downward shaped action, should have a real secondary out pitch against good hitters. Holloway would rack up 9 K’s against 2 hits with only 1 walk, averaging over 2 K’s per inning. High ceiling capabilities and current number 1 arm in the 2026 class of TN and 7th nationally. Will only continue to rise and will be a name every college will know by summer's end.

Phinn Waters: Coming off an impressive sophomore season that saw him help his high school club to a TSSAA DII-2A state title, Waters has not missed a beat. Working in the 85-87 mph range with a funky arm slot, hiding the ball extremely well. Have seen him up to 90 this spring but after racking up over 60 IP since March was probably due for some velocity regression. Showed a slider that tunneled well out of hand and predominantly used against lefties in the lineup. 90+% fastball usage with not only great command, but with great life to it racking up 20+ IZM on the fastball alone. He would rack up 13 K’s against 3 walks in 5 innings of work, while only allowing 1 hit against a very strong Canes Midwest team with multiple power 5 commits throughout their lineup. Competes really well and is a lot of fun to watch. Power-5 weekend rotation upside at the next level and will be a name to know as the summer circuit gets under way.

Noah Wilson: The rising junior from McCallie has been on a tear that continues to prove why he is one of the premier talents in the class of 2026. Wilson, who was coming off of a TN Top Prospect games where he ran a 6.4 and sprayed extremely hard hit balls all over the ballpark, was right back to it at the NPI on Friday. With one swing of the bat he was able to show off 3 of his present tools with a 98 mph exit velo barrel into the left- center gap, turning on the jets between first and second to end up standing on third with a triple. The left handed swing produces elite bat speed with the ability to stay inside the ball to the opposite field with ease. Direct bat path that stays long through upon contact. Great approach in the box and will also take his fair share of walks. The top 60 nationally and #4 TN overall in the ‘26 class seems to get better every time we see him with little signs of slowing down.

MIke Holt: Something that has become abundantly clear about the ‘26 outfielder out of Ravenwood High School in 2024 is that he hits, doesn't matter what the game is or who's throwing, he hits. Coming off of a school season where he was named to first team all-district for the 2nd straight year, Holt followed it up with a great performance at the TN Top Prospect games where he had a pull-side bomb, and was right back to it Friday at the NPI.  Against a very good South Charlotte Panther team, Holt would be on base all afternoon including a one hop triple off of the wall. A 7-flat runner and is 85 from the outfield,  Holt is still coming into his own physically and will continue to feel out as he goes into his junior year. Handles velocity very well with self-confidence against any arm.

Wyatt Severance: The Ravenwood High School product had every aspect of his game on display at Lake Point during the NPI as the sun-set on Friday. A premier athlete, Severance would be a part of an early rally for the Mad Mavericks with a barrelled single in the early goings. He would show off his sub-7 80 speed on the bases, advancing to second on a stolen base and following it up by taking third two pitches later via a great dirt ball read.  Later in the game he would collect an extra base hit with a double into the gap. The number 4 ranked backstop in the class would have that aspect of the game on full display. In the later innings he would make a spectacular sliding catch and throw on a dropped third for a crucial out.  Definitely on to keep an eye on in an event with some of the top talent in the country.
