Clarksville Summer ID: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

CLARKSVILLE, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Clarksville Summer ID was held on Tuesday, July 2nd at Austin Peay State University. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan during a bullpen setting. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the event. Below you will find scout notes and video on some of the top performers from the Clarksville Summer ID.

QUICK HITS

Eric Pereira 1B / 3B / Brentwood, TN / 2025

The rising senior Pereira had a very impressive showing at our Clarksville summer ID this past Monday. A Brentwood product, Pereira has a very strong frame with proportionate limbs at 5’11 and 235 lbs. The corner infielder had a very solid day all around starting in the infield, he moves extremely well at first base. Getting off of the bag quickly with great range to his right side, solid footwork on double play turns with the ability to turn to either side and make an accurate throw (of which he topped at 87). Where he made the most noise (literally and figuratively) however, was at the dish. His right handed swing has a simple setup, starts with his feet shoulder width apart before striding and exploding off of his back side. He stays very connected throughout his swing and shows off his strength in creating an impressive blast and trackman portfolio. Pereira showed off 76 mph average bat speed, paired with 21 G’s of rotational acceleration on Blast Motion. Which leads to a 94 mph average bat speed and 102 (event best) max exit velo. The uncommitted rising senior is a surprising athlete with a very big motor and will be one to keep an eye on going into his senior year. Look for him to continually increase his athleticism and speed as he goes into his final high school year.

Sean Birkofer OF / RHP / Providence Christian Academy, TN / 2026

Our staff got a first look at the rising Junior out of Providence Christian Academy at Austin Peay on monday, and were thoroughly impressed coming out of it. Birkofer brings in a very desirable frame at 6’1 and 190 pounds which just oozes athleticism. A primary outfielder, he shows very good footwork to and through the ball on throws to home. Patrols the outfield with solid speed in running a 7 flat 60 yard dash, with more gas in the tank. Having personally not seen the right handed stroke of Birkofer, having watched his round of BP it has become a quick favorite in the class for our staff. Metric wise he has plus numbers across the board with 76.6 average bat speed, 23 G’s rotational acceleration, 90.5/97 average and max exit velocity respectively. His hands work extremely well through the swing, starting more in front of the body before getting into a fantastic position at launch. Coming off of a sophomore campaign where he was a crucial part of PCA’s success in hitting .376 with 7 bombs, Birkofer is full steam ahead heading into his final years of HS, and is sure to gain great momentum on the recruiting trail.

Cade Brooks OF / OF / East Robertson, TN / 2026

The East Robertson product who excels on both the Diamond and the Gridiron, took a break from getting ready for the fall to show off his skills on the baseball field at the Clarksville Summer ID on monday. Brooks showed off his already premier tools across the board, he had 2 of the top numbers on the day with his 6.61 60 yard dash (lots of drag with the best hair so far this summer) and 91 velo from the outfield. He glides to balls in the outfield with an aggression to and through the ball, giving him great momentum to show off his arm. At the dish he lets his plus athleticism work with an extremely quick swing, in which he gets great extension allowing him to drive balls to all fields. Premier athlete who has the tools to go far within the game.

Beckett Haselhuhn OF / LHP / Rossview, TN / 2027

A rising sophomore, Haselhuhn jumped onto our radar at his first Prep Baseball Tennessee, showcasing legit two way potential at Austin Peay. The Rossview product has a very projectable frame, coming in at 6’2 and 220 lbs with present strength throughout. He started the day running a very solid 7.3 60 which is likely to go down in the coming years. He showed off a plus arm for his age, being 86 from the outfield and 81 and first. He had an eye opening round of BP showing off some electric bat speed which produced bat speed in the 70 mph range, average exit velo of 86.6 and a max of 97. An athletic stance with bent knees and slightly open feet, a slight bat waggle as he loads his hands before an explosive move through the zone. Advanced feel to keep the barrel through the zone, with an eagerness to do damage out front. Off the mound the Southpaw showed inklings of top level arm, being up to 82 with his FB with a hammer of a CB. Lots to like about the rising sophomore who is one to watch on both sides of the ball as he progresses physically and through HS.

Will Chladny RHP / Summit, TN / 2025

The rising junior for Summit opened eyes for our staff in our first in-event look at the lanky right-hander. With a high waist and very long limbs Chladny has a quintessential pitchers frame with a very live arm to boot. He brings good tempo through his pitching motion with very good use of his lower half as he works down the mound. Arm produces serious whip as he comes through a high three quarter arm action. His arsenal is led by a very heavy fastball that is currently in the 86-88 range which works closer to the 9s with 20 inches of ride to it. His Fastball is supplemented by a very good traditional curveball which he tunnels well with the primary offering. Chladny has a good feel for his changeup, but needs to live down as to stay out of trouble with it. He shows great athleticism down the mound with an ultra projectable frame that currently clocks in at 6-3 and 195 lbs. Not far of a stretch to say he can easily be creeping into the 90’s very soon as he increases strength, an very intriguing prospect he is an arm to keep an eye on.

Phinn Waters LHP / Briarcrest Christian, TN / 2026

We got our second look at Waters this summer as our last time was seeing him dominate 5 innings of work at NPI last month where he showed pitchability and command with 2 pitches, while heavily relying on his fastball up in the zone and away to left-handed hitters. Waters came into the Clarksville Summer ID as his first official Prep Baseball Tennessee showcase and he did not disappoint. The fastball sat between 85-88, but the induced vertical allows the pitch to play much harder and it is easy to understand why he is so effective up in the zone. With an average of 21-22 inches of induced vertical break with around 6 inches horizontal, the pitch plays well above average. At 6 foot and 190 pounds, Waters comes in with some established physicality but is also due for more, as he has plenty of future projection left remaining. Spin is already average with 2200-2400 RPM’s and should continue to uptick as he matures. The slider will need some refinement and should also continue to climb as he matures. It shows more gyro/darty shape at its current development, but does show advanced mph at 78-80 mph. His CH definitely looks to be his best secondary offering with command and ability as he tunnels well with the pitch out of hand with fastball arm-speed and body fluidity. Phinn clearly shows physical traits with his present stuff but also comes in advanced mentally handling and controlling a game, as he was a large factor in helping Briarcrest claim the D2-II State Championship this past spring. He should finish his summer out strong and will be someone that a lot of schools will be wanting to get committed to their program this upcoming fall.

Jayden Gaylor RHP / SS / Rossview, TN / 2026

The right handed arm of Gaylor had a very good showing for himself at the Clarksville Summer ID on Tuesday. A rising junior, Jayden Gaylor brings great athleticism to the field with a compact frame with present strength throughout. He has whippy actions on the bump with a ¾ arm action, he gets great use of his legs with a drop and drive motion down the hill. He runs his fastball up into the mid 80s which ranged from 84-86 with late arm side run. His SL is very sharp with 13 inches of horizontal movement that he spins from 2300-2500 rpms. Shows good feel for a changeup that kills spin and hop very well. Premier athlete Gaylor looks to continue to string together good performances this summer heading into a big fall recruiting wise.

Dominic Malich RHP / OF / White House Heritage, TN / 2025

The Prep Baseball Tennessee staff got another look at the rising senior from White House Heritage in Dominic Malich. We previously saw him last month at the TN Top Prospect games and he was impressive once again. Malich, who is coming off of a very successful junior campaign that saw him post a sub-2 era, oozes projectability in his frame at 6-4 and 175 pounds. He has a very over the top arm action that allows him to produce great spin and backspin on his fastball, of which lived in the high 80s (86-88 T89) with great spin. His fastball has great bore to hit with nearly 20 inches of vertical break, playing harder than the radar gun shows. He has two genuine offspeed offerings in his SL and CH, slider has wipeout potential with 2500 rpms and he has very good feel for his changeup. The rising senior has done it in game all year and shows no signs of slowing down as he barrels towards his senior year.

Max Rogers RHP / RHP / Rossview, TN / 2026

On a day that showed a plethora of very good talent out of Rossview, Max Rogers led the pack. A rising junior for the Hawks, Rogers had one of the better bullpens on the day with a spectacular Trackman profile. He has a lean compact frame at 5’11 and 185 pounds with much more in the tank. Off the mound he flashed 2 very legitimate offspeed offerings in his slider and changeup. His slider is one of the better ones we've seen this summer, velo wise its 71073 with 2760 max rpms and -20 inches of vertical break. He pairs that with his CH which complements hsi other 2 offerings very well. The change piece features 7 inches of average vertical break and 16 inches of average horizontal movement. Capping off his arsenal is his fastball that has great life at 84-85, his fastball features 17.5 inches of ride that will get on hitters quickly. Rogers shows two plus offspeed offerings with the FB to set the table, if he can limit walks in game he is definitely going to be a problem his final 2 years of HS.

Drew Massey RHP / 3B / Liberty Creek, TN / 2028

We got an extremely interesting first look at incoming Liberty Creek freshman The 2028 grad, Massey comes in uber projectable at 6 foot 4 and 170 pounds, and moves very well on the bump especially for his size and age. He has a shorter arm action that shows some hitchiness at times, regardless his FB would work up in the low 80s (80-83) with good life to it with 18 inches of vertical break. He has a budding potential plus changeup that he throws from 67-68, and does a very good job of killing hop, as it is nearly 10 inches of vertical break lower than his FB. The righty shows developing feel for a slider which he spins well, his breaking ball will only get better as his arm speeds up. There's a lot to like about Massey as he gets ready to embark in his HS career.

Aiden Smith RHP / Rossview High, TN / 2025

Our staff got a very good look at the very intriguing ‘25 RHP out of Rossview in Aidan Smith. The rising senior brings a high upside physical profile at 6 foot 1 and 175 pounds, long limbed and has a lot of room to continue to develop physically. Smith is extremely fluid throughout his motions on the mound as he works to a high ¾ arm slot with great extension. The righty works with a 3 pitch mix consisting of a FB that cruised in the mid 80s (84-86) that would occasionally grab a 7 with good late life arm side. His SL has a very good shape to it with -4 average vertical break and -11 inches of average horizontal movement. He showed good feel for a CH in the 81-82 range with some fade to it, kills spin well with it but could be considered firm for a changeup. A very quality arm for Rossview, Smith looks to have a big summer heading into a big offseason for his physical and velocity development.
