Chattanooga Summer ID: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Chattanooga Summer ID was held on Wednesday, July 3rd at Chattanooga State CC in Chattanooga, TN. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan during a bullpen setting. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the event. Below you will find scout notes and video on some of the top performers from the Chattanooga Summer ID.

QUICK HITS

Jackson Jones C / OF / GATE CITY HIGH, TN / 2025

Our staff received a first look at the rising senior out of Gate City high school in Virginia. Jackson Jones comes in with a very athletic frame that is still fairly lean at 5 '11 and 160 pounds, of which he squeezes every last bit of juice that he has in his swing. Jones had the best round of BP of the day, where he showcased a simple and controlled swing that starts with a narrow stance and his knees bent. A small load of the back hip and he pushes his hands into a loaded position before exploding through his swing. The uncommitted rising senior put a charge into all the balls he hit on wednesday, giving the massive Chatt St baseball field a run for its money. He would showcase 70 mph average bat speed and 27 g’s of rotational acceleration in producing a 93 max exit velo. A primary backstop Jones showed off a 76 mph arm from behind the dish to a 2.08 poptime, lots of room to get to the sub-2s with cleaner footwork and staying in his legs more. A high quality athlete with room to improve, Jones looks to continue impressing this summer heading to his senior year.

Hudson Burnett OF / RHP / Halls, TN / 2028

We got an exciting first look at an incoming freshman who showed off premier athleticism in Chattanooga on Wednesday. Hudson Barnett, who will be attending Halls high school this fall gave us a great look at his skills. He started the day off with a bang by running a 6.8 second 60 yard dash, it's not a far stretch at all to see a 6.6 or lower in the next couple years.  THe speedster would make great use of his legs in the outfield, getting to the ball with ease with aggression through the ball before showing off an 83 mph arm. He is still developing footwork and confidence with his glove but that will come with reps and time. At the plate he moves very well with twitchy actions, he stays through the zone very well and has a developed feel for letting the ball get deep and driving it the other way. Burnett would register a 88 mph max exit velo, which projects to much higher as he develops further physically. A ton to like about now and down the line for Burnett who looks to be a key piece as apart of a very good young core for Halls.

Justin Allen 3B / Notre Dame Catholic, TN / 2027

A rising sophomore at Notre Dame Catholic, Justin Allen gave us a very good first look at his in Chattanooga this past week. Allen brings a large frame at 6 foot and 190 lbs with present strength through his body. He showed off a very interesting swing with solid power projection, working with a solid bat path through the zone with 23 mph peak hand speed that produces 92 max exit velo. He has a tendency to not fully drive his backside which leaves some power on the table. His hips move very well just needs to drive his back knee into the ground in order to get the most out of his legs. Allen moves very well in the field as well with good glove presentation and confidence moving to either side. Will develop better footwork as he improves athletically. A Lot to like about Allen, who carries the potential for some massive power.
