Fulton Johnson, OF/LHP, L/L, Collierville HS, 2015
At 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Johnson shows versatility to play the outfield as well as some potential on the mound.
As a participant in the Unsigned Senior Games Event on September 28, Johnson caught some attention with his versatility and performance. He showed natural instincts as a defender with good mechanics, playing through and getting behind balls with a quick, clean exchange. His throws were consistently accurate to the third base bag while showing plenty of arm strength at 85 mph from the outfield.
Offensively, Johnson demonstrated some power potential with a good approach from the left side of the plate. The ball tends to jump off his bat due to good use of the lower half, and though he only collected one hit during game play, he made several hard outs and consistently squared the ball up during batting practice. Johnson shows the potential to be an effective bat wherever he hits in the lineup.
On the mound, though not a power arm, Johnson shows that he could be a viable asset to a pitching staff. With a fastball sitting at 75-76 with arm side run and sink to go along with a 65-66 mph curveball with 2/8 movement and tight spin, Johnson was effective at working the zone while successfully retiring hitters.
Look for Johnson to be an integral part of the Collierville lineup in 2015.
