Unsigned Senior Games: Team White Middle Infielders

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games took place on October 11 at Vol State and afforded uncommitted seniors from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is a look at the Team White middle infielders who participated in the event. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also participated as a pitcher at the event will have their pitching performance featured in a subsequent article.

Al Batson, 2016, Ezell- Harding Christian, SS/OF
The 5 foot 11, 180-pound prospect posted a 6.88 60 time and had an 81 mph position velocity from the outfield and a 75 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively from the infield, Batson shows short arm action, average arm strength, accuracy, fluid footwork, soft hands, clean exchange but has room to get rid of the ball quicker. From the outfield, Batson shows fluid footwork, good athletic ability, average arm strength, some accuracy, soft hands and natural instincts. Batson shows good overall athletic ability which will allow him to play multiple positions at the next level. Offensively Batson shows some bat speed from the right side with above average quickness in hands and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Batson hits from an open setup with a long stride, uses his lower half, shows average balance, has an aggressive approach, level path with line drive production. Batson passes the eye test and shows some projectability. He went 3 for 3 during game play with two singles and a double.

Drew Haynie, 2016, Ravenwood, SS
The 6 foot 1, 180-pound prospect posted a 7.25 60 time and had a 75 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Haynie showed short arm action with a ¾ release,  average arm strength, soft hands but tends to field the ball with throwing hand separated from glove hand leading to longer exchange, fluid footwork and natural instincts. Offensively Haynie has fast bat speed from the right side and had an 89 mph exit velocity off the tee. Haynie hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half, has good overall balance, level path, fluid rhythm and is a line drive type hitter with gap to gap potential. Haynie shows good overall strength at the plate Haynie went 1 for 3 with a double during game play and shows some projectability.

Jacob Curtis, 2016, Summertown, 2B
The 5 foot 9, 170-pound prospect posted a 7.68 60 time and had a 77 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Curtis shows average arm strength, some accuracy on throws, average hands, fluid footwork with above average lateral movement. Offensively, Curtis shows some bat speed from the right side and had an 83 mph exit velocity off the tee. Curtis hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, shows overall average balance, level path, fluid rhythm, and is a pull side type hitter. Curtis went 0 for 3 during game play.
