Unsigned Senior Games: Team Maroon Middle Infielders

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games took place on October 11 at Vol State and afforded uncommitted seniors from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is a look at the Team Maroon middle infielders who participated in the event.

Brendan Grainger, 2016, Father Ryan, 2B
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect posted a 6.88 60 time and had a 78 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, Grainger showed short arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, playable hands. Offensively, Grainger shows average bat speed from the left side and had a 77mph exit velocity off the tee. Grainger hits from a balanced setup, has a leg kick involved, uses his lower half, showed good balance, had an aggressive approach, level path with fluid rhythm, and is a line drive type hitter who works the middle of the field well. Grainger went 2-for-4 during game play with two singles.

Houston Smith, 2016, Blackman, SS
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect posted a 7.22 60 time and had a position velocity of 77 mph from the outfield and 74 mph across the infield. Defensively from the infield Smith showed average arm strength with short arm action and a quick ¾ release, accurate throws, fluid footwork with good body control, soft hands with a clean exchange. From the outfield Smith showed average arm strength from a ¾ arm slot, fluid footwork, average arm strength, a clean exchange, and some accuracy. Offensively, Smith showed some bat speed from the right side with an 84 mph exit velocity off the tee. He hits from an open setup, has a short stride, likes the ball middle-in, can incorporate more lower half at times, has a short/compact swing and shows flashes of gap power. Smith went 1-for-4 during game play with a double.

Billy King, 2016, Franklin, SS
The 5 foot 9, 160-pound prospect flashed his speed with a 6.75 60 time and had a 76 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, King showed long arm action, some accuracy, average arm strength, adequate hands, and has a long/slow exchange. Working through the baseball with more fluid footwork will allow him to get rid of the ball more efficiently. Offensively, King showed average bat speed from the right side with an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. King hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, good balance, short swing path with some hand quickness, line drive type hitter, went 0-for-4 in game play.

Joseph McNamee,2016, Friendship Christian, 2B
The 5-foot-7, 160-pound prospect posted a 7.75 60 time and had a 74 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively McNamee shows short arm action from a ¾ am slot, some accuracy, average arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork with above average lateral movement, works through the ball well. Offensively, McNamee has average bat speed from the right side and had a 72 mph exit velocity off the tee. He hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, line drive type hitter with a middle of the field approach. McNamee went 0-for-4 during game play.

Austin Tucker, 2016, Hillsboro, SS
The 5-foot-8, 160-pound prospect posted a 7.00 60 time and had a 74 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Tucker shows short arm action with a quick release, some accuracy, average arm strength, average hands, good lateral movement. Offensively, Tucker has average bat speed from the right side with a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee. Tucker hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, has a tendency to drop his hands to trigger swing leading to a long uphill swing path, went 0-for-4 in game play.
