November 27, 2017
With the 2018 rankings updated, we will be diving into positional looks at the top uncommitted seniors over the course of this week.
First up, pitchers:
Andrew Lindsey RHP / Waverly Central, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 6
FB (87-90), CB (73-75), CH (77-80) The 6-4, 185 pound righty was seen by this scout last spring against Stewart County. Features a projectable, prototypical pitcher's frame w/ arm speed and feel for his body. Was up to 90, pitching 87-89 w/ feel for the strike zone. CB projects as a plus pitch. Have been told he is not interested in pursuing a college baseball career. |
Nathanial Tate RHP / C / Coffee County Central, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 8
FB (85-88), CB (74-76), SL (75-79), CH (69-73) The 6-1, 160 pound righty was seen by this scout on 3 separate occasions this fall and impressed on the mound in all 3. Featuring a lanky build w/ lots of projection, he flashed two plus pitches every outing. Still learning consistency, his FB, which has been up to 88 w/ seven different readings and both breaking balls have flashed plus. A high-level athlete, he just needs repetitions and body growth to reach his considerably high ceiling. |
Seth Caldwell RHP / Oak Ridge, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 29 / POS: 10
FB (83-89), CB (74-77), CH (74-78)
The 6-5, 190 pound righty was seen by scout this fall for the first time and had a strong outing for the Royals Scout Team against a talented Walters State club. Featuring a prototypical pitchers frame w/ lots of projection, he had a 39 % swing and miss rate against Walters State. Another righty just needing reps, Caldwell flashed 3 above average pitches w/ projection of command. A very high ceiling RHP. |
Seth Petry RHP / 3B / Siegel, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 64 / POS: 27
FB (81-85), CB (69-73), CH (76-78) The 6-0, 160 pound righty was first seen by this scout two years ago on Siegel's title run and has been seen two separate times this fall. A strike thrower who repeats his delivery, Petry is a pitching coaches dream. Pounds the strike zone w/ 3 pitches, including a FB w/ arm-side run, a plus CB w/ tight rotation and an avg CH w/ life. Against Columbia State this fall, he threw 20 of 25 pitches for strikes. With a little physical development, Petry projects to help a collegiate team next spring. |
Spencer Keylon RHP / 3B / Soddy Daisy, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 81 / POS: 36
FB (76-80), CB (67-69), CH (68-70) The 6'3, 170 pound righty was last seen by Prep Baseball Report in January of 2016. After suffering a leg injury, he has been recovered and been rumored to be into the high 80's. Not yet seen by this scout, but the film of him from January 2016 showed a very projectable righty w/ a loose arm. Near the top of this scout's list to see this spring, he should be a pitcher that due diligence should be done on. |
Corey Wilson RHP / OF / Houston, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 95 / POS: 38
FB (83-86), CB (73-75), CH (78) The 5'11, 160 pound righty was last seen by Prep Baseball Report in the fall of 2016. Another pitcher coming off of an injury, he is another near the top of the list to be seen by this scout. When healthy, he flashed the ability to put hitters away w/ a solid CB and a FB featuring run. Another arm to make sure due diligence is done. |
Matthew Reed RHP / 1B / Houston, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 96 / POS: 39
FB (84-86), CB (71-73), CH (75-78) The 6'4, 180 pound righty was last seen by Prep Baseball Report this summer. Possessing a prototypical pitchers frame, he was last seen pitching solely from the stretch w/ the ability to repeat his mechanics. He mixed in a heavy FB to go with a 12-6 CB. After an off-season of adding muscle, he will be an exciting arm to follow up on early next spring. |
Tyler Sills RHP / 2B / Battle Ground Academy, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 106 / POS: 40
FB (81-82, T 85), CB (68-69), CH (70-71) The 6'0, 145 pound righty was last seen by this scout in November, where he added a couple ticks of velocity from the last data in the system. Touching 85, he features a projectable, lanky frame that is just scratching the surface of his physical potential. Mixing in two average off-speed pitches, he will be an exciting arm to follow up on early next spring to see where physical development has put him. |
Jared Woodward RHP / Union City, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 107 / POS: 41
FB (78-83), CB (70) The 6-6, 203 pound righty was last seen by this scout in September, where he showed an impressive FB and projectable body. Relying on extension and ability to generate late riding life on his FB, he featured a 42 % swing and miss on his FB that gets on hitters and plays up. Also mixed in a CB that flashed average. Featuring projection and quality arm speed, is another arm to follow up on early next spring to see where he has settled in. |
Gavin Pulliam RHP / C / Franklin, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 111 / POS: 42
FB (81-84), CB (72-75), CH (77-79) The 6'1, 200 pound righty was seen 2 different times by this scout this fall. A righty w/ some physical projection, he filled the zone w/ 3 average pitches w/ the CH profiling as a potential above average pitch. Featuring nothing straight, his FB had arm-side run, his CB flashed above average and his CH flashed above average w/ the bottom falling out late. Another interesting arm to follow up on early next spring. |
Josh Descher RHP / 2B / Brentwood Academy, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 112 / POS: 43
FB (82-85), CB (72-74), SF (74-76) The 6'0, 190 pound righty was seen 3 different times by this scout in the fall. A righty w/ some physical projection, he was consistent over the 3 outings w/ velocity trending up. Combining a straight FB w/ 2 average secondary pitches, he also generates some natural deception to allow his stuff to play up. Another arm to follow up on and see where he is next spring. |
Harry Buchanan RHP / 1B / CAK, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 113 / POS: 44
FB (76-79), SL (66) The 6'0, 178 pound righty was last seen by this scout this fall. A side-arming righty, he features some physical projection w/ strike-throwing ability. In the age of specialization, he did exactly what he was supposed to do in his outing, generating a 67 % ground ball rate w/ occasional bore into RHH's. If you are looking for a different look out of your pen, this is an arm you need to see next spring. |
James Hermes RHP / 1B / Knoxville Catholic, TN / 2018Rankings StateRank: 114 / POS: 45
FB (81-83), CB (65-69), CH (70-71) The 6-5, 215 pound righty was last seen by this scout this fall for the Pitchers Showcase, so have not seen him in game. Features a projectable, prototypical pitchers frame w/ some present strength. Flashed 3 pitches w/ a quick arm. FB was up to 83, but velocities tend to be better in game action. Mixed in both a CB and CH that flashed above average. An arm definitely worth following up on early next spring. |
