Scouting Report

3/11/20
McWilliams posted a dominant lone start in the 2020 high school season, leading Beech past district foe Hendersonville going 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, and 16 K's.  Quick, loose arm action with short path works up to 3/4 slot and hides the ball well.  Simple, repeatable delivery.  Fastball sat 83-86 with good life, especially elevated in the zone.  Seemed to play up a tick and jumped on the hitters. Sharp, late-biting 12/6 curveball at 72-74, generating ample amount of swing and misses.  6-foot, 165-pound with projectable frame.

5/3/18

The younger brother of two professional pitchers, McWilliams has the bloodlines that favor him progressing rapidly in the future. He has a clean, more polished delivery with a medium-sized, loose arm swing that delivers out of a high ¾ slot with quick hand speed out front. His fastball works 83-85 with normal effort, and he demonstrates control of the pitch down in the zone while creating some angle. His breaking ball is thrown at a firmer, 73-75, and exhibits proper shape and spin, and could develop into a swing and miss offering in the future. With one brother being 6-foot-7, and the other being 6-foot-4, it is a pretty safe bet that McWilliams will end up with a physical frame, and given the loose, quick arm that he already showcases, there is a strong chance that he sees an even greater velocity jump in the future. Overall, McWilliams’ has a high-ceiling, and as he continues to fill out, should quickly reach it in coming years.
