Scouting Director Notes

"The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Williams is an absolute force on the diamond.  The lefty swinging outfielder has some power and smooth stroke with great bat speed. Lean, muscular frame who plays a sound corner OF with above average arm strength.  Physical presence in the batter’s box. On the bump, simplified things this offseason to make some strides, but mid 80s lefty arm with some upside.  A toolsy prospects who would be a big time add for teams needing lefty bat/raw pitcher prospect." -Colton Provey

6/12/18 - Max FB: 87, FB: 83-87, Avg FB: 83.65, CB: 69-72, CH: 75
6-foot-0, 212-pound, LHP continues to tease with big stuff.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned present strength throughout, some physical projection.  Pitched from a full wind-up into low ¾ release from the third base side of the rubber.  Some stiffness in his delivery, learning how to keep his arm on time.  Occasional wrist cock throws off timing at times.  Showing ability to adjust, subtract from his velocity to throw strikes.  Straight FB.  Medium downer CB shows potential when keeps his fingers on top of the baseball.  Tends to get around it, creating more of an early slurve.  Straight CH w/ arm-speed.  Thrower showing ability to make more consistently competitive pitches.  Very intriguing raw arm.

6/12/18 - Home-1st: 4.68, Position Velocity:  OF-83, Exit Velocity: 96
6-foot-0, 212-pound, LHH has progressed a lot as a hitter and continuing to tease the ability to convert his raw tools into production, collecting 3 hits on this day.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned present strength throughout, some physical projection.  Advanced frame for a 2020.  Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, very slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into knee to knee stride and proper hand load.  Generates premium bat speed through the zone.  Pull oriented approach w/ barrel staying in zone for long time.  Has progressed a long way since our first look at Border Battle, where he showed his big tools, but a lot of swing and miss in game.  Swung and missed just twice in 8 swings while showing barrel feel.  If he continues to make jumps like this, watch out, as the raw tools stack up with the best OF’s in the class.  Showed pull power in BP, occasionally top-spins the baseball.  Next step in his development will be consistently getting extension through the zone and generating consistent back-spin.  Projectable above average runner.  Defensively, developing routes and bat reads in the OF, tools to project in CF. Shows easy arm strength in the OF, was up to 87 on the mound.  Legitimate 2-way prospect.
