Travelers Scout Day - Position Players

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On September 16th, Gagliano Field hosted a Scout Day for the Memphis Travelers organization.  This event included a position player workout, followed by pitchers throwing a 10-15 pitch pen on the game mound. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff and college coaches in attendance. The following is a look at every position players in attendance.

ISAIAH BROOKS / C / OF / NORTHSIDE, TN / 2019

60 Time: 7.41, Pop Time: 2.07-2.12, Position Velocity:  C-69, OF-79, Exit Velocity: 93
5-foot-9, 140-pound, RHH led the way in exit velocity, touching 93.  Short, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, projectable, has just scratched the surface of his frame potential.  Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into short knee to knee leg kick, occasional toe tap, and short load.  Generates bat speed through the zone.  Developing timing within the leg kick, flashes ability to be on time and get lower half involved.  Gap to gap offensive approach w/ lot of line drives when right.  Projectable pull power.  Worked out as a catcher and as an OF.  As a catcher, moves well behind the plate while presenting a solid low target.  Takes a big glove rest which includes putting his throwing hand in his glove at times to reset the target, occasionally re-presents the target, appears not to do so on breaking balls.  Developing feel for sticking the baseball.  Shows a want to block the baseball, agile behind the plate.  As a thrower, shows solid footwork w/ developing arm strength and solid release.  In the OF, moves well w/ carry to target arm strength.
