TN: JUCO: Motlow State

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Friday, we were present for the first day of games as part of the TCCAA Fall Showcase, hosted by Lipscomb University.  Friday brought together Cleveland State, Jackson State, Motlow State and Volunteer State.  Below is a look at Motlow State and the players that jumped out to us during their two games.

NATHAN SANDERS / OF / SMYRNA, TN / 2017

3-6, 2B

6-0, 170-pound OF picked up 3 hits and showed the offensive tools to be one of the top JUCO hitters in the state.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, projectable.  Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, very slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into leg kick to square and proper load.  Generates above average bat speed through the zone.  Barrel stays in the zone for a long time.  All fields approach w/ a lot of line drives when right.  Still head allows him to have a knack for contact, track the baseball, 1 swing and miss on 10 swings.  Shows ability to recognize spin, lay off put-away pitches from both righties and lefties.  Hitter-ish w/ balance.  Projectable all fields power as the frame matures.  Picked up a 95-exit velocity on the double.  Ran a 4.37 on a turn, above average runner underway.  Defensively, moves well in the OF w/ carry to target arm strength.
