TN Game Report: Lawrence County v Franklin County

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Wednesday, we traveled to Lawrence County for their district doubleheader against Franklin County.  This was a very cold day w/ heavy winds, resulting in many velocities being down and overall uncomfortable playing conditions.  Franklin County was written about previously here.  Read up on standouts below (and check out the Twitter feed for some video highlights):

CADEN SONS / RHP / 1B / FRANKLIN COUNTY, TN / 2018

FB (78-83), CB (69-72), CH (72-76)

-       7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

-       5-7, 3 2B, BB

Roane State commit shows intriguing 2-way potential.  6-4, 225-pounder w/ present strength, close to mature frame.  Bulldog build.  On the mound, the righty works from an over the top release from a full wind-up.  Quick arm w/ low effort throw.  Angle.  Straight FB shows occasional ride through the zone.  Medium downer CB flashes tightness, proper shape.  Straight CH flashed short fade.  Strike thrower w/ the FB/CB, developing feel for CH.  Generated 13 swing and misses on 54 swings.

Offensively, has just hit in the 3 games I have seen.  Has a presence in the box, hitting w/ a slightly open, upright stance w/ short hand rhythm into leg kick and proper load.  Some stiffness offensively, but generates power w/ his strength.  Learning to sync up his upper and lower half within his swing.  Gap to gap w/ power to all fields.  Showed intriguing ability to make contact for a power hitter, showing zero swing and miss on 13 swings w/ some balance.  DH’d in game 2, did not see on defense on this day.
