TN Game Report: Hendersonville @ Mt. Juliet

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Tuesday, we traveled to Mt. Juliet for their game against Hendersonville.  This was a warm night, which allowed the marquee pitching matchup to play up to expectations.  Hendersonville has previously been written up here.  To read up on standouts, read below (and follow the Twitter feed for video highlights!)

ETHAN SMITH / RHP / OF / MOUNT JULIET, TN / 2018

FB (90-93, T94 four times), CB (76-78), SL (79-82), CH (82)

-       5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K

Vanderbilt commit showed intriguing mix of command and present FB velocity.  Prototypical pitcher frame w/ some present lower half strength, projectable.  Pitched from a full wind-up into H ¾ release w/ super quick arm.  Pre-set back foot w/ occasional tap before entering in a double leg kick delivery.  Will quick pitch, pitch w/ a prototypical single leg kick, varies the timing and veracity of the double leg kick.  Angle w/ downhill plane.  FB shows occasional arm-side run.  Medium downer CB flashes proper shape/rotation.  Tight ¾ tilt SL is primary off-speed pitch.  Flashed above average w/ tightness, late bite, two plane break.  Began more cut-like before adding depth later in the outing.  Mixed in a single straight CH.  Pounded the bottom of the zone, stayed out of the middle of the plate.  Generated 18 swing and misses on 39 swings.
