The second of our two Preseason Preview events took place at Turner Baseball Academy in Chattanooga on January 31, and there were several solid performances turned in. Complete stats and top statistical performers were previously posted shortly after the event.

The following is a look at the group of outfielders who attended the event. This is position player analysis only. Those outfielders who also participated as a pitcher at the event had their pitching performance featured in a previous article.

Outfielders

Alec Lubas, OF/LHP, Ravenwood, 2018
Home-1^st: 4.86, Position Velocity:  OF-86, Exit Velocity: 84
6-foot-2, 202-pound LHH had one of the most impressive overall performances of the event. Looks to drive the ball with every swing, balanced stance, aggressive leg kick trigger, physically advanced and uses strength in swing, hands are quick and loose, significant lift at contact, good pull-side power. Shows athletic outfield actions, works through the ball well, over the top release, loos and athletic arm with well above average arm strength. Lubas projects as a power-hitting corner outfielder. High-level 2018 prospect.

Brandon Mason, OF, Chattanooga Christian, 2016
Home-1^st: 4.44, Position Velocity:  IF-84, OF-85, Exit Velocity: R-82, L-84
5-foot-10, 170-pound switch-hitter has impressed at each event. Uses all fields well from both sides of the plate, quick hands produce good bat speed, line drive type hitter flashes occasional gap to gap power, runs well and can incorporate speed in offensive game, could be a top of the order hitter at the next level. Athleticism allows him to play multiple positions, good footwork in the outfield and attacks the ball, shows good range as an infielder with adequate hands, good arm strength from both positions. Mason will be a very good late pickup for a college program.

Chandler Chambers, OF, Farragut, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.50, Position Velocity:  OF-84, Exit Velocity: 77
6-foot, 180-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, gets the barrel on plane and keeps it in the zone for an extended period, can work uphill at times, flashes power to all fields, ball jumps off the barrel, aggressive approach, shows good speed. Has room to play through the ball more aggressively, long high-3/4 release produces good arm strength. Chambers has proven to be a top uncommitted 2017 OF.

Grant Galbraith, OF, Signal Mountain, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.35, Position Velocity:  OF-80, Exit Velocity: 88
6-foot, 180-pound RHH impressed with a good combination of tools. Hits from an open stance, gets to square with a mid-length stride, uses lower half well, maintain good balance, loose hands help generate good bat speed through the zone, flashed power to all fields in impressive round of BP, posted the top home to first base time of the event. Athletic defender in the OF, attacks the ball well, high-3/4 release produces solid arm strength. Galbraith is a very interesting 2017 prospect who can play multiple OF spots at the next level.

Garrett Schultz, OF/RHP, Ensworth, 2019
Home-1^st: 4.80, Position Velocity:  OF-84, Exit Velocity: 78
5-foot-10, 150-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, mid-length stride, maintains good balance through contact, uses all fields well, gets through the zone consistently with quick hands, good bat speed for age, line drive gap to gap approach, impressed in BP. Shows athletic defensive actions and moves well, long high-3/4 release, loose and athletic arm, premium arm strength for age. Schultz is a potential high-level young player to watch closely.

Avery Conkin, LHP/OF/1B, Science Hill, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.40, Position Velocity:  IF-77, OF-80, Exit Velocity: 84
6-foot-3, 210-pound LHH, good size, projects as corner OF. Hits from an open and somewhat narrow stance, squares up with a mid-length stride, uses lower half well, creates lift at contact showing gap to gap power, good barrel awareness, runs well for size. Looks athletic in the OF, plays through the ball, long release, solid arm strength. Athletic 1B with ideal size to play the position, solid footwork around the bag, soft hands, accurate throws.

Benjamin Clifft, OF, Huntingdon, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.43, Position Velocity:  OF-76, Exit Velocity: 87
6-foot, 185-pound LHH hits from a balanced stance, moderate leg kick trigger with minimal stride, hands start high and drop some to trigger swing, shows some flashes of power and the ability to use all fields, showed some speed getting down the line. Shows solid defensive actions, works through the ball, shorter over the top release with average arm strength.

Stokes Needham, OF, Webb School of Knoxville, 2018
Home-1^st: 4.68, Position Velocity:  OF-77, Exit Velocity: 88
6-foot, 175-pound RHH showed a big jump in arm strength and exit velocity from previous event last fall. Hits from a balanced stance, toe tap and short stride trigger the swing, front side hitter at times, loose hands help to generate bat speed, line drive gap to gap hitter, ball jumps off barrel when squared. Moves well as an outfielder and plays through the ball, clean exchange with an over the top release, arm strength has improved and will improve further as he incorporates better use of lower half in throws. Needham is a 2018 prospect to keep a close eye on.

Daniel Willie, RHP/OF, Ooltewah, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.71, Position Velocity:  OF-83, Exit Velocity: 80
6-foot-2, 175-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, leg kick trigger, short stride, wrap in load creates some length in swing, level path, average bat speed, line drive type hitter. Plays through the ball well with athletic actions, long high-3/4 release, arm is loose and athletic, solid arm strength with more likely to come, should continue to fill in projectable frame leading to some power potential at the plate.

Joshua Dobbs, OF, Powell, 2018
Home-1^st: 4.65, Position Velocity:  OF-74, Exit Velocity: 79
5-foot-8, 145-pound LHH starts in an open stance, uses a leg kick to load back, lands square with a mid-length stride, weight shift into contact, loose hands, repeatable swing produced consistent mid-field contact, also shows ability to hit to opposite field well. Shows some athleticism defensively, long high-3/4 release, current arm strength is average. Current best tool is his bat from the left side.

Matthew Stubblefield, OF/RHP, Bearden, 2018
Home-1^st: 4.51, Position Velocity:  OF-80, Exit Velocity: 75
5-foot-11, 165-pound RHH showed much improved speed and arm strength from previous event. Hits from an open stance and squares up with a short stride, incorporating more consistent lower half use will benefit offensive game, average bat speed. Works through the ball aggressively with average actions, loose arm, high-3/4 release with solid arm strength. Stubblefield has made noticeable strides in his overall game.

Tucker Mendenhall, OF, Walker Valley, 2017
Home-1^st: 4.82, Position Velocity:  OF-75, Exit Velocity: 74
5-foot-8, 150-pound LHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good balance, works middle of the field well with a line drive approach, average bat speed, some looseness in hands. Showed above average footwork in the outfield and plays through the ball well, clean exchange, long high-3/4 release, average outfield arm strength.

Presley Carver, OF, Fulton, 2017
Home-1^st: 5.02, Position Velocity:  OF-75, Exit Velocity: 70
5-foot-11, 175-pound RHH hits from a wide base, minimal stride, uses strong lower half well, shows strength in hands, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, showed better bat speed in BP than exit velocity indicates. Works through the ball with a two-handed approach, ¾ release with average arm strength, closing off front side more consistently in throws should produce a jump in velocity from the outfield.

Zachary White, OF/3B, Gibbs, 2018
Home-1^st: 5.21, Position Velocity:  IF-67, OF-67, Exit Velocity: 65
5-foot-9, 175-pound RHH starts in a slightly open stance, loads back with front foot and uses aggressive stride, balance issues at times, showed better bat speed than exit velocity indicates, aggressive approach, pull-type hitter. Participated as both an OF and 3B, choppy footwork but plays through the ball well in the OF, adequate infield hands with average range, over the top release with developing arm strength.
