The season kicked off around the state last week, meaning we had plenty of statistics to sift through in selecting our first Player of the Week award this spring. There were several worthy candidates nominated, but looking through the numbers, one player stood out as deserving of this week’s honor.
Zach Linginfelter is no secret nationally. The No. 1-ranked player in Tennessee’s 2016 class checked in at No. 25 in the PBR Draft 100, and the University of Tennessee signee will draw plenty of attention from pro scouts as he takes the mound this spring. But it was Linginfelter’s offense that powered Sevier County to a 5-1 record last week.
It would be an understatement to say Linginfelter has gotten off to a fast start this spring. The right-handed hitting first baseman put on an impressive display of power in going 9-for-15 with three doubles, three home runs, and nine RBI’s to headline the Smoky Bears offense.
For his performance on the field, Zach Linginfelter has been selected as the PBR Tennessee Player of the Week for March 14-19.
