The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Carignan showed well at the North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase, the inaugural PBR Tennessee event, on August 24 at Station Camp High School.
Defensively, Carignan showed good arm strength from behind the plate at 77 mph, and he tied for the best pop time of the event at 1.86 with most of his throws in the 1.9-2.0 range. He gets rid of the baseball with a quick exchange and release and shows good lateral movement behind the plate.
At the plate, Carignan has a balanced setup with a smooth load, short stride, and explosive lower half. He shows some quickness in his hands and has a slight uphill swing path with gap power. Carignan impressed in his round of batting practice where he squared the ball consistently and also posted 83 mph exit velocity off the tee.
In addition, Carignan showed he has ability on the mound as well with a fastball that topped at 84 mph. He mixed in a two-seam fastball that sat mostly in the high 70’s with good arm-side run, a 68-71 mph curveball with late break, and a 73-76 mph changeup.
