PLUS: PBR Kickoff Classic: Friday Report

Tim Kay
Associate Scout

On Friday, 4 teams came together to play a single game in the PBR Kickoff Classic.  Defending AAA champ Rossview, host Hendersonville, Powell from East Tennessee and Covington from West Tennessee all came together to play 3 games over 2 days.  I was on site Friday and here are the players who made an impression:

BROCK LOMAXOF / 2B / COVINGTON, TN / 2019

1-2, BB

-          3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

-          FB (81-86, T87), CB (66-69)

Austin Peay commit showed off his intriguing all-around skill-set in the first inning, bunting for a single while running a 4.00 down the line from the right side, stealing 2nd and 3rd and then touching 87 in the 1st inning on the mound, teasing at his arm strength.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, super projectable, has just scratched the surface of his frame potential.  Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, very slightly crouched stance w/ very short hand rhythm into short shift of weight, toe tap to square and proper load.  Generates above average bat speed through the zone.  All fields, line drive oriented approach w/ projectable pull power.  Knack for barrel.  As a pitcher, shows intriguing arm strength w/ some spin, sprayed the zone on this day.  Projects best as an OF.
