Welcome to On the Hunt, a new weekly feature that will highlight the top uncommitted (usually underclassmen) players in the country. The main focus of these segments will be to promote players who have the potential to be impact players at the next level. Some will be under-the-radar prospects are just starting to pop up on the national stage while others will be solid players looking for the “right fit” in a program. All will be necessary ingredients to a winning program.
Jared Beck, LHP, Davenport North, IA, 2018
The 6-foot-10 (yes, 6-10) 185-pound left-hander will stick out at any event, but his ability to repeat his mechanics and arm stroke are what really should be eye-popping. Beck recently sat 82-84 with his fastball at PBR Iowa’s Underclass Prospect Games, and was able to spin a 12/6 curveball for strikes at 65-68. Again, his size alone makes him a high-follow prospect, but his current ability to repeat a medium arm stroke shows that he could turn into a special pitcher in the future.
