North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

PBR Tennessee held its inaugural event in the state with the North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase on August 24 at Station Camp High School. The following is a look at the group of corner infielders in attendance at the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Brady Ballinger, 3B, R/R, Beech HS, 2015
6-foot, 150 pound prospect posted a 7.42 60-yard dash time and 73 mph tee exit velocity. Loose arm action with ¾ arm slot. Made accurate throws to 1st base with 67 mph arm strength. Soft hands in the field. Quick feet, set up and exchange. Athletic and plays through the ball. Open hitting stance with a smooth load, short stride and maintains good balance. Tends to drag hands through the zone, but shows line drive to gap power potential.
Lucas Gross, 1B/LHP, L/L, Station Camp HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 165 pound prospect posted an 8.06 60-yard dash and 83 mph tee exit velocity. Left handed hitter with some projectable power. Balanced set up with a fluid load. Takes a short stride to the ball. Tends to transfer weight to the front side. Showed a level swing path hitting several line drives during BP. Defensively showed fluid footwork around the bag. Soft hands, clean exchange and plays through when fielding. Short, 3/4 throwing action with accuracy. Posted a 76 position velocity with line carry.
Tyler Jones, 3B, R/R, LaVergne HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 195 pound prospect posted a 7.5 60-yard dash time and 84 tee exit velocity. Big body type with athleticism. Impressed in defensive portion of workout. Moves well to both sides. Sets up well. Fluid footwork with quick, clean exchange. Plays through the ball with soft hands. Throws from a high ¾ slot and short arm action with quick release, 70 mph arm across the infield. Open hitting stance with smooth load. Occasional over stride. Explosive lower half torque with pop. Ball jumps off bat. Good round of BP with consistent contact. Gap power.
Zach Shonting, 1B, R/R, Merrol Hyde Magnet, 2016
6-foot-3. 230 pound prospect posted an 8.01 60-yard dash time and event best 87 tee exit velocity. Big, strong body type. Arm is loose and accurate, 74 mph arm on throes to third base. Actions appear mechanical, but fields well. Showcased some power during the BP portion of work out. Balanced set up with tendency to bar arm and wrap bat. Short stride with consistent lower half usage. Slight uphill swing. Generates substantial power.
Aaron Weakley, 3B/C, R/R, Hendersonville HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 165 pound prospect posted a 7.95 60-yard dash time and 72 tee exit velocity. Consistently fielded the ball with clean exchanges. Could benefit from a quicker set up and transfer. Showed 70 mph arm strength across the infield. Short arm action. High ¾ slot. At the plate, balanced stance.Tends to bar arm. Short stride with balance. Limited use of lower half. Line drive hitter.
