KY/TN Fall Prospect Games at Murray State: Team Red Pitchers

By Chris Fuller
PBR Kentucky/Tennessee

The PBR Kentucky/Tennessee Fall Prospect Games at Murray State University took place on October 18 and drew players from both states to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. There were some solid performances turned in, and several young players attending their first PBR event established themselves as players to watch closely over the next few years.

The following is a look at the Team Red pitchers from the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those players who also participated as a position player at the event had their position player performance featured in a previous article.

The complete stats and top statistical performers from the event were previously posted. CLICK HERE to view that information.

Jonathan Beymer, RHP, Hopkinsville HS (KY), 2017
6-foot, 165-pound RHP stood out as the top arm of the event. He works through a high-3/4 arm slot with long and loose arm action, easy delivery and ball jumps out of hand, quick arm, fastball sat 81-84 mph topping at 85 with late arm-side movement, shows a sharp curveball with 11/5 action at 67-68 mph, good feel for the curveball, stuck with the two-pitch mix consistently throwing strikes, allowed three singles, walked one, and struck out four in his three innings of work, has potential to add more velocity moving forward.

Tanner Brown, RHP/1B, Collins HS (KY), 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound RHP with lanky frame and good projectability, works through a high-3/4 arm slot with shorter/quick arm action, regular effort in drop and drive type delivery, works quickly, fastball sat 77-79 mph touching 80 with good arm-side run and late sink, works the lower part of the zone well with the fastball, showed a 67-69 mph curveball with minimal action that needs continued development, allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out two (both looking on fastballs) in his two innings of work.

Justin McAllister, RHP/2B, McCallie HS (TN), 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound RHP has a solid idea how to pitch and is a young prospect to keep an eye on. Works through a ¾ arm slot with long arm action and normal effort in delivery, fastball sat 74-75 mph touching 77 on one occasion and showed occasional cutting action that was effective in missing barrels, showed a 64-68 mph breaking ball that had slider type action and produced some swings and misses, occasionally drops down to a slightly lower arm slot on the breaking ball, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out three (all on the breaking ball) in his three innings of work.

Cameron Langston, SS/RHP, McCracken County HS (KY), 2018
5-foot-11, 145-pound prospect works through a high-3/4 arm slot with long arm action, consistently threw strikes in his two inning outing, fastball sat 72-74 mph touching 75 and is mostly straight, used a 63-65 mph knuckle ball as a secondary pitch that had some tumbling action, allowed four hits and struck out three in his two innings of work.

Malik Pogue, RHP/3B, Westview HS (TN), 2019
6-foot-3, 165-pound RHP has a long/lanky frame that projects well, works through an over the top arm slot with regular effort in delivery, is quick to the plate from the stretch, pounds the strike zone with fastball/curveball mix, fastball sat 71-73 mph with occasional arm-side run, shows good feel for 60-63 mph curveball and locates it well at the bottom of the zone, curveball shows 12/6 action with some depth, allowed five hits and struck out one in his two innings of work, young pitcher who projects to add significant velocity.
